Dear Sir or Madam,
Student answer (Band 6.5)
Dear Sir,
I am writing this letter to complain about our neighbour who is living next to our apartment and they are creating trouble for me due to playing video games especially at late night.
I am suffering this problem from last two weeks and already discussed this issue with them but they don't care and they still paying games at midnight.
As I am doing early morning shifts so I have to wake up early in the morning in order to reach my work place on time, however, due to this issue I am not able to sleep properly and from last two weeks I was not only reached to my office usually half an hour late but also not concentrated on my work too.
I would appreciate if you could find some solutions of this or apply some policies such as penalty using loud musics, video games or any kind of disturbance after 10:00 pm. As this matter requires you immediate attentions.
I look forward to hearing from you soon.
Yours Sincerly,
Simran

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0
The letter addresses all three required points: you identify the neighbour’s late-night gaming, say the problem began two weeks ago, explain its effect on your sleep and work, and request agency action. The impact is particularly clear in the account of early shifts and arriving late. You also mention having already spoken to the neighbour, which adds useful context. The request for a policy restricting noise after 10 p.m. is relevant, though “find some solutions” is quite general; specify a practical step, such as contacting the neighbour or enforcing the tenancy’s quiet-hours rules. The opening “Dear Sir” does not follow the supplied “Dear Sir or Madam,” and the closing spelling should be corrected, but the purpose and overall position remain clear.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.0
The information follows a sensible progression: complaint and timing, effects on you, then the action requested. This makes the letter easy to follow, and phrases such as “As I am doing early morning shifts” help connect the noise to its consequences. The final request and closing also give the letter a recognisable formal structure. However, several ideas are crowded into long sentences, especially the sentence beginning “As I am doing early morning shifts,” where the work effects could be separated for clarity. The repeated references to “this issue” and “this problem” are understandable but somewhat general. Use clearer references and paragraph breaks to distinguish the background, impact, and requested action.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use enough relevant vocabulary to communicate the complaint, including “late night,” “midnight,” “wake up early,” and “penalty.” However, several word choices and collocations are noticeably inaccurate or unnatural, which limits precision: “they still paying games” should be “they are still playing games,” while “solutions of this” would be more naturally expressed as “a solution to this problem.” “Loud musics” is also unsuitable; “loud music” is uncountable, and the phrase does not fit the gaming complaint as precisely as “excessive noise.” The spelling “Sincerly” should be “Sincerely.” Aim to use accurate, natural phrases for formal complaints rather than relying on broad expressions such as “creating trouble.”
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You attempt both simple and complex sentence forms, including a contrast with “however” and a cause-and-effect sentence beginning “As I am doing early morning shifts.” These attempts help explain the situation, but control is inconsistent and errors occur in several sentences. For example, “they still paying” is missing the auxiliary “are,” and “from last two weeks I was not only reached” has problems with the time expression, tense, and verb form. The long sentence about your work also needs clearer clause structure and punctuation. Practise forming present perfect sentences for a situation continuing until now, such as “I have been experiencing this problem for the past two weeks,” and check that each clause has a complete verb.
