Student answer (Band 6.5)

Dear Sir or Madam,

I hope you are doing well. I'm writing this email to express the certain disturbances caused by my neighbour which is also your cilent since past 15 days.

My neighbour Klaus makes the unbareable noise midnight when everyone takes rest. He plays online video games with loud screams and talks that bothers my sleep, specially i'm a light sleeper that makes my problem worse.

I have tried to have a word with him about the situation, however there are no positive outcomes. He used to be quite and kind but only after the lauch of GTA 6, things have changed. I do understand how popular the game is and how everyone was waiting for this but he should mind the timing of playing or at least he can put the efforts to be quite while playing.

I would like you to have a talk with him about this because i'm a student and my exams are on the way, therefor i need to get good sleep in order to prepare better.

Thank you,

Liza Patel

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0

The letter addresses all three required points: it says the disturbance has been happening for 15 days, explains that the neighbour’s late-night gaming and shouting disrupt your sleep, and asks the agency to speak with him. The detail about being a light sleeper and having exams gives the complaint a clear personal reason, while mentioning that you have already tried speaking to him supports your request. The purpose and desired action remain clear throughout. To make the response more fully developed, specify the usual hours or frequency of the noise and state more directly what outcome you expect, such as quiet hours or a reminder of the tenancy rules. The reference to the game’s launch is relevant context, but could be shortened to make room for those practical details.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.0

The information follows a clear progression: you introduce the complaint, describe its effect, explain your attempt to resolve it, and then make a request. Paragraphing helps distinguish these stages, and links such as “however” and “because” show how the ideas relate. The reader can follow the situation without difficulty. Some connections could be smoother: the sentence about the game’s launch interrupts the account of your conversation with the neighbour, and the request paragraph could connect more explicitly to the earlier failed attempt. Use punctuation around linking words—for example, a full stop before “However”—and consider a more formal closing to complete the letter. These refinements would make the organisation feel more controlled.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use relevant vocabulary to explain the complaint, including “disturbances,” “light sleeper,” “positive outcomes,” and “prepare better.” These choices communicate the main issue, and the reference to “loud screams” makes the noise concrete. However, several spelling errors and awkward word combinations reduce precision, including “cilent,” “unbareable,” “quite” where you mean “quiet,” and “put the efforts.” “Express the certain disturbances” is also unnatural for a formal complaint. Aim for accurate, natural collocations and a consistently formal register; for example, describe the noise as “unbearable” and say it “disturbs my sleep.” Proofreading spelling and word forms would make your vocabulary more effective and professional.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

The letter includes both simple statements and more developed sentences, such as “I do understand how popular the game is and how everyone was waiting for this but he should mind the timing.” This shows an attempt to connect several ideas, and the overall meaning is generally understandable. However, errors in sentence construction and punctuation recur. For example, “which is also your cilent since past 15 days” lacks a natural grammatical structure, while “talks that bothers my sleep” has a subject–verb agreement problem. The sentence beginning “I have tried to have a word…” also needs clearer punctuation around “however.” Work on accurate clause formation, agreement, and sentence boundaries, while retaining some complex structures. These changes would improve control and readability.
