Student answer (Band 6.0)

Dear Sir,

i am writing you this letter because i want to adress an issue with you related to our nighbours. Currently i am living in a flat no 7 at 5th floor owned by you.

I want to explain the issue which is started almost 3 weeks ago. Our next door family brought a PC for their child recently and they start playing games late at night. it is not our concern how much time they play games. We only here to complain about the noise. they play extremly loud video games.

I work 6 days a week and my children also study at universities. Because of loud voice my whole family feel highly uneasy. It create problems in our sleeping schedules. Also because of high noise me and my children are not able to concentrate on work.

I have some suggestions related to this issue. First of all agency should make polices about loud voices for everyone. Secondly, ban on these type of activities at night for every flat which and disturb other peoples.

I am looking forward to resolve these problems without any issue.

Kind Regards,

X, Y, Z

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

The letter addresses all three required points: you say the problem began “almost 3 weeks ago,” explain that the noise disrupts your family’s sleep and concentration, and ask the agency to introduce rules and restrict noisy activity at night. The complaint is relevant and your request is understandable. Some points, however, are less fully developed: the timing and frequency of the gaming are not specified, and the proposed action is broad rather than a clear request for the agency to contact the neighbour or enforce quiet hours. The opening also gives unnecessary flat details, while the closing request to resolve the problem “without any issue” is vague. A more precise, direct request would make the purpose stronger and more complete.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The letter has a clear overall arrangement: it introduces the complaint, explains its background, describes its effects, and then offers suggestions. Paragraphing helps the reader follow this progression, and signposts such as “First of all” and “Secondly” make the requested action easy to locate. Some connections are less smooth or precise, however. “I want to explain the issue which is started” does not link the background naturally, and the final suggestion, “which and disturb other peoples,” makes the relationship between the rule and its purpose unclear. The repeated use of “I want” and “because” also makes parts feel mechanical. Use clearer linking and refer directly to the agency and neighbour to improve flow.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use enough vocabulary to communicate the main complaint, including “late at night,” “sleeping schedules,” and “concentrate,” and the reader can understand the effects on your family. However, several word choices, collocations, and spelling errors reduce precision and naturalness. For example, “loud voice” is not the usual phrase for gaming noise, “highly uneasy” is awkward in this context, and “make polices” does not express the intended idea accurately. There are also noticeable spelling errors such as “adress,” “nighbours,” and “extremly.” Aim for more precise complaint language, such as “excessive noise,” “disturb our sleep,” and “introduce a quiet-hours policy,” and check spelling carefully.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

The letter includes both simple statements and attempts at longer structures, for example, “Because of loud voice my whole family feel highly uneasy.” The main message remains understandable, but some errors in verb forms, agreement, articles, and sentence construction make the writing less controlled. Examples include “the issue which is started” and “they start playing,” where the tense forms do not fit the past beginning of the problem, and “my whole family feel” and “It create,” where subject–verb agreement is incorrect. The sentence beginning “Secondly, ban on these type of activities” is also incomplete. Practise forming complete requests and checking tense and agreement; this will make your varied sentence attempts clearer and more accurate.
