Dear Sir or Madam,
Student answer (Band 6.5)
Dear Sir/Madam,
I am writing to complain about the enormous noise level created by my neighbour late at night in my apartment building.
I have been living in this building for the last two months. Initially, I did not experience any major issue, but from last two weeks noise level is quite high as they play loud video games and also shot while playing, which is quite irritated.
It creates several problems for me because I work full-time. I do morning shifts, so that is why, I need to get up early in the monring. A considerable amount of noise makes me unable to get enough sleep during night time, due to which, I feel aggitated throughout the day and even unable to concentrate on my work properly. My poor performance place negative impact on my productivity.
I would appreciate it if new and strict rules could be introduced against the higher level of noise in the building by the agency. It would also be helpful to place a notice at the front door of the building, so everyone can aware about the new policy. If you have any other alternative to implement in order to mitigate this issue will be appreciated.
Thank you for your time and consideration. I hope appropriate actions will be taken to resolve this problem.
Yours faithfully,
Soni.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.5
The letter addresses all three points and maintains a clear, appropriately formal purpose. You explain that the noise began two weeks ago, describe its effect on your sleep, mood and work, and request stricter rules and a notice for residents. These details make the complaint relevant and give the agency a clear understanding of the impact. The request for the agency to take action is also courteous. To make the response more fully developed, specify what action you want regarding this particular neighbour—for example, contacting them directly or enforcing quiet hours. The final sentence about “any other alternative” is less precise, so a concrete request would strengthen the letter’s effectiveness.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.0
The letter is organised clearly: the opening states the purpose, the next paragraphs explain the history and effects of the noise, and the final main paragraph sets out requested action. This progression is easy to follow, and linking expressions such as “Initially,” “because,” and “so” help connect ideas. Some connections are less smooth or are used mechanically, particularly “so that is why” and “due to which,” which make the sentences feel cumbersome. The final request also shifts from specific measures to the vague phrase “any other alternative.” Use simpler links where the relationship is already clear, and make each paragraph’s ideas build directly towards a specific request.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
You use an adequate range of vocabulary for a formal complaint, including “considerable amount,” “concentrate,” “productivity,” and “mitigate this issue.” These choices communicate the seriousness of the problem, and the tone is generally suitable. However, some word choices and collocations are inaccurate or unnatural: “noise level is quite high,” “shot while playing,” “quite irritated,” and “higher level of noise” do not express the intended meaning precisely. There are also spelling errors in “monring” and “aggitated.” Aim for natural combinations such as “the noise has become much louder,” “shout while playing,” and “disturbed by the noise.” More precise phrasing would make the complaint sound more fluent and professional.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, including conditional and subordinate structures such as “I would appreciate it if…” and “because I work full-time.” Most of the message remains understandable, and the longer sentence describing the effects gives useful detail. Some grammatical errors remain, however. For example, “from last two weeks” needs an article or a different time expression, and “so everyone can aware” is missing a verb form (“be aware”). The clause “If you have any other alternative to implement … will be appreciated” is also incomplete and needs a clear subject and main verb. Review articles, verb forms, and sentence completeness, especially in longer requests.
