Dear Sir or Madam,

Student answer (Band 6.0)

Dear sir,

Hope you are doing well. I am writing this letter to bring your attention on an issue that we are currently facing. First of all, i would like to thank you for your help in choosing the accommodation. It is really a nice place. Unfortunately, from last few weeks. we are facing a loud music problem from the flat next to us. Almost every second day they play loud music.

As i am a student and have to do my assisgnments but because of this concern i am not able to complete my work on time. Moreover, noise also affects my sleeping schedule.

Due the fact that i feel lethargic whole day.

I would really appericiate if you could take an action on it. It would be really appericiated if you could set a strict time limit on playing loud music. I personally believe that imposing a heavy fine would help to resolve this issue.

Please let me know if you need any additional informnation. Thank you for your time. I am looking forward to hearing from you.

Your sincerely,

Rimple Sharma

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

You address all three points and maintain a suitably polite, formal purpose: you report the neighbour’s noise, explain its effect on your studies and sleep, and request action from the agency. The impact is reasonably clear in “not able to complete my work on time” and “affects my sleeping schedule.” Your proposed time limit and fine also make your request specific. However, the account does not fully match the prompt: it describes “loud music” rather than loud video games, and “from last few weeks” gives only a broad indication of when the problem began. To strengthen the response, identify when it started more precisely and explain the requested intervention in a little more detail. The main task is covered, but some points are less fully developed.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The letter has a clear overall arrangement: an opening and description of the problem, a paragraph on its effects, a request for action, and a courteous closing. This makes the purpose easy to follow. You also use linking expressions such as “First of all,” “Moreover,” and “Unfortunately.” At times, however, these links feel mechanical, and the sentence “Due the fact that i feel lethargic whole day” is left as a fragment, interrupting the flow. The opening also spends space thanking the agency before explaining the issue. A more direct opening and a complete sentence connecting tiredness to the noise would create smoother progression and clearer cohesion.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

You use an adequate range of vocabulary for a complaint letter, including “accommodation,” “sleeping schedule,” “strict time limit,” and “resolve this issue.” The reader can understand the problem and the action you want. Some choices are imprecise or unnatural, though: “bring your attention on” would be more naturally expressed as “bring this to your attention,” while “take an action on it” is better as “take action.” The repeated “really” and “appreciated” also limit variety, and spelling errors such as “assisgnments,” “appericiate,” and “informnation” reduce accuracy. Aim for more natural complaint-letter collocations and proofread spelling to make your vocabulary more controlled.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt both simple and more complex sentence forms, for example, “As i am a student and have to do my assisgnments but because of this concern i am not able to complete my work on time.” The meaning is generally understandable, but some grammatical and punctuation errors remain. “From last few weeks” needs an article and a more suitable preposition, and “Due the fact that i feel lethargic whole day” is an incomplete clause; it could be joined to the previous sentence. The sentence beginning “As” also has an awkward structure, and capitalisation of “I” is inconsistent. Use complete clauses, check articles and prepositions, and vary sentence structures while keeping them accurate.
