Student answer (Band 6.5)
Dear sir or Madam,
I hope this message finds you well. My name is Himani and I live in a flat which was rented through your accomodation service. I am writing this letter in order to draw your attention towards an issue which I am currently facing. I have a complain against my neighbour who is also renting through you and is causing a noise problem by playing video games on very loud volume at late night. It is been a month since this problem is making our living habitat dificult.
Further more, I am working in a profession where I face noise pollution and thus I would prefer quiet environment at my home. However, due to my neighbour's actions I cannot have peaceful surroundings at night and that affects my sleep.
I would really appreciate if you can send him a warning notice of noice pollution and violating the rules of our community living habitat so that he can follow the rules and make a decent environment for the neighbours.
I hope you can understand the problem and can take an immediate action.
Thank you.
Kind regards,
Himani

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0
The letter addresses all three required points and maintains a clear, polite request to the agency. You identify the neighbour’s late-night gaming, explain that the problem has lasted “a month,” and describe its effect on your sleep. You also make a specific request for the agency to send a warning notice. These details make the purpose clear and the ideas relevant. To develop the response further, specify when the noise usually occurs or how often it happens, and explain more precisely how your work is affected by the lack of sleep. The request could also invite the agency to investigate or contact you about the action taken, rather than relying only on a warning.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.0
The information is arranged in a clear sequence: you introduce the complaint, describe its impact, and then state what you want the agency to do. Separate paragraphs help the reader follow these stages, and phrases such as “However” and “I would really appreciate” support the progression. The opening and closing also suit a formal letter. Some linking is less natural or slightly mechanical, particularly “Further more,” and the long opening paragraph combines several points that could be separated for easier reading. Use a more direct transition into the effects of the noise, and keep each paragraph focused on one purpose. Overall, the organisation is logical and the message is easy to follow.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
You use an adequate range of vocabulary to explain the complaint and its impact, including “draw your attention,” “peaceful surroundings,” and “warning notice.” The meaning remains clear, but several word choices, collocations, and spelling errors reduce precision. For example, “complain” should be the noun “complaint,” “noise pollution” is not the most natural description of loud gaming in a flat, and “living habitat” is an awkward phrase for a home or residential environment. There are also spelling errors such as “accomodation,” “dificult,” and “noice.” Choose conventional terms for neighbour disputes and check spelling carefully to make the formal tone more natural.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0
The response includes both simple sentences and more complex forms, such as “However, due to my neighbour’s actions I cannot have peaceful surroundings at night and that affects my sleep.” Most sentences communicate the intended meaning, and the letter’s overall structure is controlled. Some grammatical errors remain, however. “It is been a month since this problem is making…” has an incorrect verb form and tense; a clearer version would be “This problem has been affecting us for a month.” In “I would really appreciate if you can send him,” the conditional pattern needs adjustment, for example, “I would really appreciate it if you could send him.” Review verb forms and conditional structures to improve accuracy.
