Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0
You identify the central issue—your neighbour makes excessive noise late at night—and explain that it disrupts your sleep before work. You also mention that you spoke to the neighbour and ask the agency to intervene, so the main purpose is understandable. However, the response only partially develops the required points: “from first day of living” gives an imprecise start time, and the effects are briefly stated rather than explained. Your requested actions (“say to them” and move the TV) are also not clearly framed as a formal request to the agency. The response is one word below the required minimum, and adding specific details would help you address each point more fully.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
The letter follows a broadly sensible order: you introduce the problem, describe its effect, mention your attempt to resolve it, and then suggest what the agency could do. This makes the overall message possible to follow. However, most of the response is presented as one long paragraph, so the different points are not clearly separated. Linking expressions such as “However” and “Secondly” are used, but the progression is sometimes awkward; “Secondly” does not clearly introduce a distinct second problem. Some references, including “them” and “that side,” are not fully precise. Use short paragraphs for the problem, its impact, and your request, and connect them with straightforward, accurate transitions.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use enough basic vocabulary to communicate the situation, including “neighbour,” “volume,” “bedroom,” and “work.” The reader can understand that the television is loud and affects your sleep. However, the range is limited, and several phrases are unnatural or imprecise, such as “requesting you regarding our problem,” “disturbing us at latenight,” and “turn slow their voice.” These choices make the letter less clear and less appropriate for a formal complaint. Aim for precise collocations and a more formal register, for example, “I am writing to report a noise problem,” “the noise is disturbing my sleep,” and “reduce the volume.” Check spacing and spelling in expressions such as “late at night.”
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt to combine ideas using clauses, as in “I have to wake up early in the morning for my work as well as I want to sleep early,” and the basic meaning is generally recoverable. However, the range of sentence structures is limited, and attempts at longer sentences often contain errors. Examples include “from first day of living,” “one day i told them but they don't want to listen,” and “You can say to put the TV far,” which show problems with articles, tense consistency, and sentence construction. Capitalisation and punctuation are also inconsistent, including the lowercase “i” and spaces before commas. Use shorter, controlled sentences and check articles, verb forms, and punctuation before submitting.
