Student answer (Band 6.5)

Dear sir ,

I am writing to express my concern regarding my neighbour . Always in night he make so much of noice which affect me and family and unfortunately, we both rented our flat from same agency.

To begin with, This noice problem starts from last 3 weeks , shortly after new tenant moved in. We rented in with same agency, therefore his flat number is 1523, which is just left to my flat. as a result i heard loud music , explosion, as well as shouting through my wall whenever he play video games, moreover its stays till 2-3am in the morning.

In morning i have to go for a work at 7 am and because of that issue i have just 2 to 3 hours of sleep. furthermore have computer base job so its cause me headache as well as fatigue and i can't focus on my work even i can not complete my task.

I would appreciate if you could remind him about noice regulation that you cant make noice after 10 pm which is in our tenant policy. Even If possible give him formal notice if he did not change his attitude.

Thank you for your time and consideration. I look forward to hearing from you soon.

yours respectfully,

patel.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.5

The letter addresses all three required points and maintains a clear, appropriately formal purpose. You identify when the issue began—“last 3 weeks, shortly after new tenant moved in”—describe its effects through lost sleep, headaches, fatigue, and difficulty concentrating, and request that the agency remind the neighbour of the rules or issue a formal notice. These details make the complaint relevant and supported. To strengthen the response further, make the requested action more precise, such as asking the agency to contact the neighbour promptly and follow up if the noise continues. The opening and closing suit a formal complaint, although the sign-off could be presented more consistently. Overall, the task is fully addressed with clear supporting details.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.0

The information follows a clear progression: you introduce the complaint, explain its timing and source, describe its impact, and then state what you want the agency to do. Paragraphing helps distinguish these stages, and linking expressions such as “To begin with,” “as a result,” and “furthermore” guide the reader. However, some connections feel mechanical or are used where the relationship is not quite clear; for example, “therefore” does not logically introduce the neighbour’s flat number. Several ideas are also crowded into long sentences, making the sequence harder to follow. Use shorter sentences and choose connectors that express the exact relationship between ideas. This would make the otherwise logical progression smoother and more natural.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use relevant vocabulary for a complaint, including “concern,” “formal notice,” “tenant policy,” “fatigue,” and “consideration,” so the reader can understand the situation and its consequences. However, the range and control are uneven, with repeated use of “noice” and broad phrases such as “so much of” and “change his attitude.” Spelling errors such as “noice” and “base” also reduce accuracy, while some combinations sound unnatural, including “computer base job.” Aim for precise, conventional collocations and check spelling carefully. For instance, describe the disturbance as “excessive noise” and explain that it affects your ability to concentrate. More accurate phrasing would make the complaint sound clearer and more professional.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

The letter attempts both simple and more extended sentence forms, including a sentence linking the noise to its effects and a conditional request: “if he did not change his attitude.” However, errors in verb forms, agreement, articles, and sentence construction are frequent enough to make parts of the letter awkward. Examples include “he make,” “whenever he play,” and “this noice problem starts from last 3 weeks”; these need forms such as “he makes,” “whenever he plays,” and “the problem began three weeks ago.” Capitalisation and punctuation are also inconsistent, particularly after sentence breaks. Practise accurate present and past-tense patterns, and divide long sentences into complete clauses. This will improve clarity while allowing you to retain some complex structures.
