Student answer (Band 6.5)
Dear Sir or Madam,
I am writing to bring into your notice a problem of loud noise at night, that I am facing since we have moved into the new accomodation.
I rented a flat from your agency last month on 28th September'2026. We had new neighbours approximately one week after that. Since then, almost every night, we hear the sounds of loud video games followed by cheering and celebrations of winning. This issue started 3 days after the new neighbours moved in. Initially, we ignored that it might be just an occassional thing but this has become a routine matter now.
Both of us are working parents and our two kids are school going. We are unable to take uniterrupted rest because of this problem hence, we are tired all day and unable to focus on our work. This is also affeceting our mental health and ability to carry out routine chores.
We want you to please inform them about the rules of living in the family residential buildings. Moreover, you can ask them to use headphones or change the time of playing video games atleast.
This will help us in getting better and quality sleep and in turn perform our daily routine chores more efficiently. Thank you.
Best Regards,
Aleshba

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.5
The letter addresses all three requested points and maintains a clear, appropriate purpose. You explain that the noise began shortly after the neighbours moved in, describe its effect on your family’s rest, work, and wellbeing, and ask the agency to remind the neighbours of the rules and suggest headphones or a different playing time. These details make the complaint relevant and persuasive. The impact is particularly well supported by mentioning your children’s school routine and both parents’ work. To develop the request further, specify a practical next step, such as contacting the neighbours directly and following up if the noise continues. This would make the proposed action more precise while preserving the clear, courteous tone of the letter.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.0
The information is arranged in a clear sequence: you introduce the complaint, give its timeline, explain its effects, and then state what you want the agency to do. Separate paragraphs help the reader follow these stages, and linking expressions such as “Since then,” “Moreover,” and “This will help us” make the progression easy to understand. Some connections could be more precise. For example, the timeline says the noise began “3 days after” the neighbours moved in, after first saying they arrived approximately a week after you moved in; this is understandable but could be expressed more smoothly. The final sentence also repeats the benefit of better sleep and routine functioning. A more concise closing would make the organisation feel more controlled.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
You use an adequate range of vocabulary to explain the complaint and its consequences, including “uninterrupted rest,” “mental health,” and “routine chores.” The wording is generally understandable, and the tone is suitable for a formal complaint. However, some choices and collocations are inaccurate or awkward, such as “bring into your notice,” “family residential buildings,” and “better and quality sleep.” There are also spelling errors, including “accomodation,” “occassional,” and “affeceting.” These do not prevent the reader from understanding your message, but they reduce precision and polish. Aim for natural formal expressions such as “bring this to your attention” and “residential building rules,” and proofread carefully for spelling.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0
The letter includes a mix of simple and more complex sentence forms, for example, “Initially, we ignored that it might be just an occasional thing but this has become a routine matter now.” Most sentences communicate the intended meaning, and you use clauses to explain causes and effects. Some grammatical errors remain. In “a problem … that I am facing since we have moved,” the tense pattern is not natural; use “a problem I have been facing since we moved in.” The sentence beginning “We are unable to take uninterrupted rest because of this problem hence” also needs clearer punctuation or restructuring, such as separating the result into a new sentence. Review tense choices and punctuation around linking words to improve accuracy.
