Student answer (Band 6.0)

Dear Sir,

I hope this letter finds you well. My self Nigam Patel ,I rented flat from your accommodation agency in the last year.I am writting this letter to address my problem that me and my family are facing from past 3 months.

In this July, Mr. Patil moved in neighbour flat. The flat was vacant from the beginning of the year and tenant arrived in the July month. First, we all were very happy and excited to meet new person. We hosted the dinner at our home and we became friends. He told us that he loves to play musical instruments and he is a member of his college music band. After couple of weeks,he started practicing at his flat.

Initially, they were playing music in the evenings only. However, now a days they are practicing till midnight.Due to that, my infant is unable to sleep and my older son is having problem in focusing on his study. My son is having his board examination in the next month.

I am hereby requesting you to talk with him and explain him our situation. I appreciate your help in this matter. I hope to receive a prompt solution about this issue from your side.

Yours Faithfully,

Nigam Patel

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0

The letter addresses all three required points and maintains a clear, polite request throughout. You explain that the issue began after Mr Patil moved in during July, describe the effects on your infant’s sleep and your older son’s exam preparation, and ask the agency to speak with the neighbour. These details make the complaint relevant and supported. The account of hosting dinner and becoming friends adds context, although it takes space without strengthening the request as much as a brief description of the late-night gaming would. To develop the response further, state explicitly that the noise comes from loud video games, as the task specifies, and give a clear example of the hours or frequency. The requested action is appropriate, but could be more specific, such as asking the agency to remind the tenant of quiet-hour rules.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The information follows a generally logical sequence: you introduce the complaint, describe the neighbour’s arrival and the change in noise, explain its effects, and make a request. Paragraphing helps distinguish the background from the impact and proposed action. Linking expressions such as “Initially,” “However,” and “Due to that” also make the progression easy to follow. Some connections are less smooth, however: the lengthy account of becoming friends interrupts the focus on the complaint, and “In this July” does not clearly connect the date to the problem’s beginning. The opening paragraph also combines several ideas in one block. A more focused paragraph structure and clearer references to when the noise started would make cohesion more flexible and less mechanical.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use enough vocabulary to communicate the complaint and its consequences, including “vacant,” “practicing,” “infant,” and “board examination.” The tone is mostly suitable for a formal letter, and the reader can understand the central problem. However, several word choices and collocations are inaccurate or awkward, such as “address my problem that me and my family are facing,” “tenant arrived in the July month,” and “receive a prompt solution … from your side.” There are also spelling and form errors, including “writting” and “now a days.” These noticeable slips limit precision and naturalness. Aim for standard complaint-letter phrases and check spelling and collocations; for example, describe the neighbour as “playing video games loudly late at night” rather than shifting to musical practice.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

The letter includes some sentence variety, including a contrast with “However” and a cause-and-effect sentence explaining how the noise affects your children. Meaning is generally recoverable, but errors in sentence construction, tense, articles, and punctuation are frequent enough to make the writing less controlled. For example, “My self Nigam Patel ,I rented flat” lacks correct sentence boundaries and article use, while “from past 3 months” needs a more accurate time expression and verb construction. “He told us that he loves” also shifts tense without a clear reason. Review sentence boundaries, articles, and consistent past and present forms. Breaking the opening into shorter, complete sentences would improve accuracy while preserving the range of structures you attempt.
