Student answer (Band 6.0)

Dear Sir\Madam,

I want to bring my concern to your notice that the neighbour who is residing in the same apartment is playing very loud video games late at night from past few days. After having a long stress full day when I return back to my home this issue is causing me inconvience and because of this issue I am not able to get proper sleep and not able to focus on my work the next day. Kindly address this issue and inform the neighbour to lower the volume as it is casuing disturbance to the people who are residing in the same apartment. I already had a word with the neighbour regarding the issue but the situation remains same even after informing several times. Kindly address him strictly regarding the rules that one should follow while living in a apartment. So that everyone can live in peace and harmony.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

You address all three points: you say the noise began “from past few days,” explain that it prevents proper sleep and affects your focus at work, and ask the agency to intervene. The added detail that you have already spoken to the neighbour helps show why you are contacting the agency. This meets the task well, though the timing is vague and the requested action could be more specific—for example, asking the agency to contact the neighbour formally or enforce quiet-hour rules. The effect on your daily life is relevant but could be developed with a clearer example. These details would make the letter more fully developed while retaining its clear purpose.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The ideas follow a sensible order: you introduce the complaint, describe its impact, and then request action. The reference to having already spoken with the neighbour also supports your request for agency involvement. However, the response is presented as one long paragraph, so the stages of the letter are not visually separated. Several ideas are joined in extended sentences with repeated links such as “and” and “because of this issue,” which makes the flow somewhat mechanical. Use separate paragraphs for the problem and its effects, your previous attempt to resolve it, and the requested action. A brief closing would also give the letter a more complete structure.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

You use a suitable range of vocabulary to communicate the complaint, including “proper sleep,” “focus on my work,” and “disturbance.” The meaning remains clear, but some word choices and collocations are inaccurate or unnatural, such as “bring my concern to your notice,” “stress full day,” and “address him strictly.” There are also spelling errors in “inconvience” and “casuing,” which reduce accuracy. Aim for more natural formal expressions, such as “raise a concern,” “after a stressful day,” and “take appropriate action.” More precise language for the requested intervention would strengthen the letter’s formal tone.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0

You attempt both simple and more complex sentence forms, and the reader can understand the complaint and its consequences. Some grammatical errors remain, particularly in time expressions and sentence construction. For example, “from past few days” needs an article and a more suitable tense, while “I am not able to get proper sleep and not able to focus” would be clearer with parallel structure: “I am unable to sleep properly or focus on my work.” The final “So that everyone can live in peace and harmony” is a sentence fragment because it is separated from the request it explains. Check articles, verb patterns, and sentence boundaries, while continuing to use a mix of structures.
