Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear Sir or Madam
I am writing to inform you that I am having a problem in a rented flat of your agency. I got a flat on rent from your company last month. Unfortunately, there is an issue of loud voice of video games from my neighbour who rents the flat from your company as well.
This problem is continue from last 15 days. Loud music is disturbing my sleep at night because their video games continue for whole night. I tried to sleep in the lobby but the voice is still coming to the area. My short time of sleep is affecting my office work where it becomes difficult for me to concentrate on projects and meetings.
I would appreciate it if you would consider my issue and take possible steps. I would recommend if you could provide me another flat with same amount and amenities nearby.
Yours faithfully
Kiran

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
You address all three points: you say the problem has continued for 15 days, explain that it disrupts your sleep and work, and request action from the agency. The effects are relevant and specific, especially the difficulty concentrating on projects and meetings. Your request for another flat is clear, but the letter would be more complete if you also asked the agency to contact the neighbour or enforce quiet hours, rather than relying only on relocation. The opening explains that you moved in last month, but the timeline could be clearer about whether the noise began immediately or later. These details show solid coverage, while some parts remain less fully developed than they could be.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The letter follows a sensible sequence: you introduce the complaint, describe its duration and effects, and then state what you want the agency to do. Paragraphing supports this progression, and links such as “Unfortunately” and “because” help connect the ideas. However, some connections are slightly awkward or unclear. For example, “I tried to sleep in the lobby but the voice is still coming to the area” does not clearly explain how this relates to the noise in your flat. The repeated references to the problem and the noise also make parts feel somewhat mechanical. A clearer transition from the impact to your requested action, and more precise referencing, would make the organisation feel more fluent.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
Your vocabulary is sufficient to communicate the complaint, using relevant terms such as “disturbing my sleep,” “concentrate,” and “amenities.” You also attempt more formal language with “I would appreciate it if,” which suits a letter to an agency. However, several word choices and collocations are noticeably unnatural: “loud voice of video games,” “issue of loud voice,” and “same amount” do not express the intended meaning precisely. “Loud music” is also not quite accurate when the problem is video-game noise. These choices do not prevent the reader from understanding the main issue, but they limit precision and naturalness. Aim for common, accurate phrases such as “excessive noise” and “the same rent.”
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You use a mix of simple sentences and longer structures, including the conditional request “I would appreciate it if you would consider my issue,” so there is some variety. The main message remains understandable, but some grammatical errors are noticeable. For example, “This problem is continue from last 15 days” has an incorrect verb form and time expression; “their video games continue for whole night” is missing an article and uses an awkward tense; and “I would recommend if you could provide me” lacks a grammatical construction after “recommend.” The sentence about office work also needs clearer structure. Practise present perfect forms for ongoing situations and check articles and clause patterns when making requests.
