Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear Manager,
I am writing this email to make complain about my neighbour who making the loud noise by plaing video games, also they rents the flat from your agency.
To start with, they have been playing loud video games late at night, and making unnecesarry noise which is very disturbing for us. The problem began last week.
Moreover, the noise especially affects us because we have early morning job, because of this we cannot able to sleep till late night. Also, becauses of not enough sleep, I cannot able to concentrate on my works which reduce the productivity at my workplace.
I would like to request you that you can send them formal notice about limitation of time, and go through with rules and regulation about playing load noise, therefore they can aware about it.
I am looking for yout prompt response as your earlist convience.
Your faithfully,
Julee

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
The letter addresses all three required points: you identify that the noise began “last week,” explain its effects on sleep and work, and ask the agency to send a formal notice and clarify its rules. The purpose is clear throughout, and the impact on your concentration adds relevant detail. However, the request for action is less fully developed than the description of the problem: specify what quiet hours or follow-up you expect the agency to arrange. The opening also does not follow the requested “Dear Sir or Madam,” and the closing “Your faithfully” is not appropriate for that salutation. The main message is nevertheless relevant and sufficiently clear, with some ideas developed more fully than others.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
Your ideas follow a sensible order: you introduce the complaint, state when it began, describe its effects, and then make a request. Paragraph breaks help distinguish these stages, and linking expressions such as “Moreover” and “because of this” show how the points relate. Some connections are less smooth, however. The opening sentence combines several ideas, while the repeated “because” in the effects paragraph makes the explanation feel mechanical. The final request also contains several actions in one sentence, so the agency’s requested next steps are not entirely clear. Use shorter, more focused sentences and make the sequence of requested actions explicit to create more consistently controlled progression.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use vocabulary relevant to a formal complaint, including “formal notice,” “limitation of time,” “concentrate,” and “productivity.” These choices communicate the main concern, but several spelling errors and unnatural word combinations reduce precision: “plaing,” “unecesarry,” “load noise,” and “earlist convience.” Some phrases are also awkward for this context, such as “make complain” and “early morning job.” The range is adequate for expressing the problem and its consequences, but control of spelling, word forms, and collocation is inconsistent. Aim for standard complaint-letter phrases and check spelling carefully; this will make the message sound more natural and professional without changing its meaning.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You attempt both simple and more complex sentences, including a clause explaining that lack of sleep affects your work. The overall meaning remains understandable, but errors in verb forms, agreement, and sentence construction occur in several places. For example, “my neighbour who making” needs a finite verb, “they rents” has incorrect subject–verb agreement, and “we cannot able to sleep” combines incompatible verb patterns. The sentence beginning “I would like to request you that” is also not formed naturally. These errors show that complex structures are being attempted but are not yet consistently controlled. Practise accurate patterns such as “I would like you to…” and “This means that we cannot…” while retaining your varied sentence lengths.
