Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear Sir/ Madam,
I recently rented a flat at your accommodation agency and troubleshooting some late night loud noise issues.
I begin living at this accomodation last week and its gonna be almost 3 days since i am seeeking this problem. So, 3 days before was going to bed and heard loud noise from my neighbours. I ignored it for 2 days, thinking its gonna get normal. On the third day, I was exhausted and heared similar sounds agian. I went to their side and asked them to put things off or slow down they ignore that part.
This is affecting me as I am a full time work person with long shift hours. I need my complete rest during night time, so I could keep myself active for the next day. Owing this Noise pollution makes me frustated and not able to rest well, ending up facing headaches next morning during my shift hours. I feel if this continous, it will distructively impact my health.
I request you to gave them warning or guidance to decrease the sound limit which will makes thinks easy for me as well as others who might be planning to accomodate here.
Looking forward to your regards,
Sincerely,
Sehajpreet Kaur

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
You address all three points: you explain that the noise began soon after moving in, describe its effect on your rest and work, and ask the agency to intervene. The details about hearing the noise for several nights, approaching the neighbour, and experiencing headaches make the complaint relevant and reasonably clear. The impact is developed more fully than the requested action, which remains general: “give them warning or guidance” does not specify whether you want the agency to contact the neighbour, enforce quiet hours, or follow up with you. The opening also says you “recently rented” rather than clearly stating that you are currently renting from the agency. A more precise request and a clearer statement of your tenancy would make the letter more complete and persuasive.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The letter has a clear overall structure: the opening introduces the complaint, the middle paragraphs explain its history and effects, and the final paragraph requests action. Time markers such as “last week,” “3 days before,” and “On the third day” help the reader follow events, while “This is affecting me” links the impact paragraph to the complaint. However, the chronology is somewhat difficult to follow because “last week” and “almost 3 days” are combined without a fully clear timeline. Some linking is also mechanical or awkward, particularly “Owing this Noise pollution” and “so I could keep myself active.” Use simpler transitions and make the sequence of events explicit; this would create smoother progression and clearer connections between ideas.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use relevant vocabulary to explain the situation and its consequences, including “late night loud noise,” “full time work person,” “long shift hours,” and “headaches.” These choices make the main complaint understandable, and “noise pollution” shows an attempt to use a more formal expression. However, several spelling and word-choice errors reduce precision, such as “accomodation,” “frustated,” “distructively,” and “accomodate.” Some phrases are also unnatural or unclear, including “put things off or slow down,” “decrease the sound limit,” and “Looking forward to your regards.” Aim for standard complaint-letter collocations and check spelling carefully. More precise wording would help you express the requested action and the effect on your health with greater control.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You attempt both simple and more complex sentences, for example, “I ignored it for 2 days, thinking its gonna get normal” and “I need my complete rest during night time, so I could keep myself active for the next day.” The overall meaning is usually recoverable, but some errors in tense, verb forms, and sentence construction make parts less clear. Examples include “I recently rented … and troubleshooting,” “I begin living,” and “I request you to gave them.” The sentence beginning “Owing this Noise pollution” also lacks a clear grammatical connection to the following clause. Use consistent past tense for the events and a correct request form, such as “I would like you to ask them to reduce the noise.” Proofreading these patterns would improve accuracy while retaining your sentence variety.
