Student answer (Band 6.5)
Dear sir or Madam,
I am writing this letter to infrom you regarding the issue that i have been facing for past two weeks.
My neighbour who rents his flat through your agency have been playing very loud video games past midnight for several hours.
This noise has ruined my sleep cycle and has caused me to be late at my construction job, that starts at 6:00 AM in the morning. I am restless throughout my day due to lack of sleep and have been having a headache due to the loud noise of video games that my neighbour keep on playing the entire night.
It is my humble request that a representative from your company should take an imidiate action on this issue and should reach out to my neighbour and solve this problem, so that i can go back to my regular lifesyle and focus on my job.
Yours truly

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.5
The letter addresses all three required points and maintains a clear, appropriate purpose: you explain that the problem has lasted “for past two weeks,” describe its effects on sleep, punctuality and health, and ask the agency to contact the neighbour. The details about your 6:00 AM construction job make the impact concrete, while the request for immediate action gives the letter a clear outcome. To strengthen the response further, specify more precisely when the gaming occurs and what action you expect—for example, asking the agency to remind the neighbour of quiet hours or investigate the complaint. The ideas are relevant and supported, though the requested remedy could be more specific.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.0
The information follows a clear, sensible progression: you introduce the complaint, explain its consequences, and then make a request. Paragraphing helps distinguish these stages, and links such as “due to” and “so that” show how the noise relates to its effects and your desired outcome. The letter is easy to follow overall. Some connections are less smooth because several consequences are packed into one long paragraph, and the final request repeats “should” in “should take” and “should reach out.” Consider separating the effects into shorter sentences and using a more direct transition into the requested action. This would make the progression feel more controlled and less repetitive.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use enough vocabulary to communicate the complaint and its impact, including “sleep cycle,” “restless,” and “lack of sleep.” However, several spelling errors and awkward or imprecise expressions limit the range and naturalness of the language. “Infrom,” “imidiate,” and “lifesyle” are misspelled, while “ruined my sleep cycle” and “the entire night” are less precise than the situation requires. “Humble request” is also overly deferential for a formal complaint. Aim for accurate spelling and more natural collocations, such as “disrupted my sleep” and “late into the night.” These changes would make the message clearer and more professional.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
The response includes both simple and more developed sentence forms, such as the sentence explaining that the noise has affected your sleep and caused you to be late for work. However, errors in agreement, articles and sentence construction occur often enough to limit accuracy. For example, “My neighbour … have been playing” should use “has,” and “for past two weeks” needs an article (“for the past two weeks”). In “my neighbour keep on playing,” the verb should agree with the singular subject. The long sentence beginning “I am restless” also joins several effects in a way that would be clearer if divided. Check subject–verb agreement and article use, and punctuate longer sentences carefully.
