Dear Sir or Madam,
Student answer (Band 6.5)
Dear Sir or Madam,
I am writing to complain about noise due to loud video games by my neighbour since last 2 months. My neightbour and I rent a flat from your accommodation agency. I have been living in my flat for 3 years now and the neighbours moved in 6 months ago.
They were preety quiet to begin with but recently in past two months they have been really loud. I have requested them to keep it low 5 times already but there has been no change.
I am a quiet person and go to work early so my day ends early aswell, I sleep at 8:30 but the loud video game noise goes on till midnight. It gets very difficult for me to sleep. as a result, it is very hard the next day as I am really tired due to lack of sleep from last night.
I would appreciate if you could please request the neighbor to keep it down after 8:30 pm, I don't mind if they keep it loud the whole day.
Please let me know if you want to discuss further or have any other suggestions. Hope to listening from you soon. Thanks for your help in advance.
Yours faithfully,
Swetta

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.5
The letter addresses all three points clearly: you identify that the noise began about two months ago, explain that it continues until midnight and leaves you tired for work, and ask the agency to request quiet after 8:30 p.m. The detail that you have already spoken to the neighbour five times also supports your request and makes the complaint credible. Your purpose and preferred solution remain clear throughout. To strengthen the response further, make the requested action slightly more specific—for example, ask the agency to contact the neighbour formally or remind them of the building’s noise rules. The impact is relevant and understandable, though it could be developed with one concrete consequence at work or in your daily routine.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.0
The information follows a sensible sequence: you introduce the complaint, give background and describe your attempts to resolve it, explain the effect on your sleep, and then state what you want the agency to do. Paragraphing helps distinguish these stages, and phrases such as “as a result” make the cause-and-effect relationship clear. The closing also suits a formal complaint. Some links are less smooth: “I sleep at 8:30 but the loud video game noise goes on till midnight” combines two related points in a long sentence, and the following sentence begins with a lowercase “as.” Use clearer sentence boundaries and transitions, and avoid repeating the same idea about tiredness, to make the progression more polished.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
Your vocabulary is sufficient to explain the complaint and its effects, with useful phrases such as “keep it down,” “lack of sleep,” and “request the neighbor.” However, the range is limited and some choices are informal or imprecise for a letter to an agency. “Keep it loud the whole day” is awkward, while “really loud” and “very difficult” are general rather than precise. There are also noticeable spelling errors, including “neightbour,” “preety,” and “aswell,” which reduce accuracy even though the meaning remains clear. Aim for more formal, specific wording and check spelling carefully. For example, describe the noise as “disruptive” and ask the agency to “address the disturbance.”
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0
You use a mix of simple and more complex sentence forms, and most of the message is easy to understand. The sentence “I have been living in my flat for 3 years now and the neighbours moved in 6 months ago” combines present perfect continuous and past simple appropriately. Some grammatical and punctuation errors remain. In “I would appreciate if you could please request,” the construction needs “it” after “appreciate”; “Hope to listening from you soon” should be “I hope to hear from you soon.” The sentence beginning “as a result” should start with a capital letter, and the long sentence about your bedtime and the noise would be clearer if divided. More accurate fixed expressions and sentence boundaries would improve control.
