Student answer (Band 6.5)
Dear Sir or Madam,
I am writing this letter to complain about the excessive noise coming from my neighbor's flat, which is rented from your accommodation agency. This noise become serious problem for me and it is also effecting my daily life.
The problem began about four weeks ago when my neighbor stated playing video game at night. At first the noise was occasional. It was not bother me much but recently, noise has increased. I can hear shouting, music and sound effects most of the late night.
This situation effected me negatively. I couldn't sleep properly at night. As I wake up early for work, it is difficult for me to get time for rest because of it my professional life getting effected.
I would appreciate it if you could contact my neighbor and ask them to reduce the volume, particularly during the night and take appropriate action to solve this problem.
Thank you for your attention to this matter.I look forward to hearing for you.
Your faithfully,
Pooja

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0
The letter clearly addresses all three requested points and maintains an appropriate, polite complaint throughout. You identify when the issue began (“about four weeks ago”), explain its effects on your sleep and work, and ask the agency to contact the neighbour and request lower volume at night. These details make your purpose clear and the ideas relevant. To strengthen the response further, develop the requested action slightly more—for example, ask the agency to follow up if the noise continues or refer to its quiet-hours policy. The impact on your professional life is mentioned but could be explained more specifically. Overall, the task is handled clearly, with some room to extend the supporting details.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.0
The information follows a clear, useful sequence: you introduce the complaint, describe when the noise started and how it has changed, explain its effects, and make a request. Paragraphing supports this progression, and phrases such as “At first” and “but recently” help show the change over time. The letter is easy to follow overall. Some links between ideas could be smoother: “because of it my professional life getting effected” joins the consequence awkwardly, and the closing sentences run together in “matter.I”. Use clearer sentence boundaries and transitions, such as “As a result, my work is also affected.” These refinements would make the cohesion more polished while preserving the effective overall organisation.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
You use an adequate range of vocabulary for a formal complaint, including “excessive noise,” “occasional,” “appropriate action,” and “professional life.” These choices communicate the situation and its impact, and the tone is generally suitable. However, some word choices or forms are inaccurate or repetitive: “stated playing” does not express the intended meaning, while “effecting” and “effected” are used where “affecting” and “affected” are needed. “Noise” and “problem” also recur several times. More precise collocations, such as “loud video-game sounds” or “disrupting my sleep,” would add flexibility and naturalness. The message remains understandable, but greater accuracy and variety would strengthen the vocabulary.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
The letter includes both simple sentences and some more developed structures, such as “I would appreciate it if you could contact my neighbor…” and the clause beginning “As I wake up early for work.” The main meaning is generally clear, but some grammatical errors remain. For example, “This noise become serious problem” needs a correctly formed verb and article, and “my neighbor stated playing” has an incorrect verb form. In “because of it my professional life getting effected,” the clause lacks a finite verb; punctuation is also needed after “matter.” Work on verb tense and agreement, articles, and complete clause construction. These corrections would make the varied sentence forms more consistently accurate.
