Student answer (Band 6.5)
Dear Sir or Madam,
I am a resident of 3465 Place Decelles apartment. I am. writing this letter to bring you attention on a serious concern of loud noise which I am facing from my neighbour for a few weeks now.
Since the middle of October, I frequently hear loud video game sounds coming from my neighbourer's apartment number 15. This sound usually starts at 9pm and continue till 1 am or 2 am in the morning.
I am a university student and my exams are next month. Due to this lound volume my sleep gets disturbed and I suffer from daytime fatigue. Eventually, my study is compromised which will affect my exam scores.
When this all get started, I wrote a letter to the neighbour to make him aware about its negative effects on my life. My complaint was not taken seriously by this person so I request you to provide him knowledge about the building rules. Moreover, to adopt a lifestyle which should not create challenges for other people living in the same building.
I believe you will take this into consideration and will take propt action regarding this.
Yours faithfully,
Suman

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0
The letter addresses all three required points and maintains a clear, appropriate purpose. You identify when the problem began (“Since the middle of October”), explain its impact through disturbed sleep, daytime fatigue, and compromised study, and request that the agency inform the neighbour about building rules. These details make the complaint relevant and supported. The request could be more specific about the action you expect—for example, asking the agency to contact the neighbour directly and ensure quiet hours are observed. The suggestion that the neighbour adopt a suitable “lifestyle” is less precise than a practical request. Overall, the task is handled clearly, with the main opportunity being to develop the requested remedy more fully.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.0
The information follows a clear progression: you introduce the complaint, describe the timing and effects, then explain your previous attempt to resolve it and ask the agency to act. Paragraphing supports this sequence, and linking expressions such as “Since,” “Due to this,” and “Moreover” help connect ideas. The reference to “When this all get started” is somewhat unclear because it repeats the opening timeline while introducing the earlier letter to the neighbour. Also, “Moreover” does not connect smoothly to the request that follows. A more direct transition, such as “As my direct approach has not worked, I would be grateful if…,” would make the relationship between ideas clearer and cohesion more natural.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
You use an adequate range of vocabulary for a formal complaint, including “serious concern,” “daytime fatigue,” “compromised,” and “building rules.” These choices communicate the issue and its consequences clearly. There are some inaccurate or awkward expressions, however: “bring you attention on” is not a natural collocation, “lound” is misspelled, and “provide him knowledge” is an unnatural way to describe informing the neighbour. “Neighbourer's” is also an incorrect form. These slips do not prevent understanding, but they limit precision and naturalness. Aim to use established complaint-letter phrases and check spelling and collocations, especially when choosing less familiar expressions.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0
The letter includes both simple statements and more developed structures, such as “Due to this loud volume my sleep gets disturbed and I suffer from daytime fatigue” and the relative clause “which will affect my exam scores.” Meaning is generally clear, but some grammatical errors remain. In “I am. writing,” the full stop incorrectly breaks the sentence; “This sound usually starts at 9pm and continue” needs subject–verb agreement (“continues”); and “When this all get started” has an incorrect verb form. The phrase “I request you to provide…” also needs a more natural grammatical construction, such as “I ask you to inform him.” Review agreement, verb forms, and punctuation, while continuing to use a mix of sentence structures.
