Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear Sir or Madam,
I am writing this letter to report you that my neighbours are disturing me by playing loud video games at mid night.
I barely complaint about people but this time i cannot tolerate it anyone. I am a simran i rented a flat two weeks ago near city centre through one of your employee named julia. I was so happy with my choice and payed my payment in adavance everything was going great in the first week but after that when i came back from my work on monday night around 9pm it was so noisy in my flat.I checked with my neighbour and i asked him to lower the volume and he agreed to do so. After that, i go to my bed and slept but around 1am i suddenly woke up because of crazy loud sounds of video games. i didnot say anything at that time, but now this is happening everyday. It is really hard for me to tolerate this because am doing full time job and study at the same time.
I requesting you to please talk to them about that concern because i cannot study and sleep beacuse of loud noises. I hope you will look into this matter and find asuitable solution of this problem.
Yours Faithfully

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0
The letter addresses all three required points: it identifies when the disturbance began (“after” the first week, on Monday night), explains its effect on your sleep, study and work routine, and asks the agency to speak to the neighbour. The account of your first request to lower the volume also gives useful context and makes your complaint credible. Your purpose remains clear throughout. To strengthen the response further, make the timeline more precise—for example, state the date or approximate week the noise first became a regular problem—and specify the action you expect, such as asking the neighbour to keep the volume down after a particular hour. This would develop the request more fully rather than leaving “a suitable solution” quite general.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The information follows a sensible order: you introduce the complaint, explain the background and how the noise affects you, then make a request and close politely. Time markers such as “in the first week,” “after that,” and “around 1am” help the reader follow events. The letter format is also appropriate. However, the long middle paragraph contains several stages of the story, so the progression becomes harder to follow; divide it into shorter paragraphs, perhaps separating the timeline from the impact. Some links are also mechanical or unclear, particularly repeated uses of “after that” and the shift from “I checked with my neighbour” to “this is happening everyday.” Use clearer references and transitions to show that the late-night noise has continued despite the initial conversation.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use enough topic-related vocabulary to communicate the complaint, including “loud video games,” “lower the volume,” “full time job,” and “study.” The reader can understand the main problem and its effects. However, the range is limited and several word choices or spelling errors make the letter less natural, such as “disturing,” “crazy loud sounds,” and “I barely complaint.” Some phrases are also imprecise, including “pay my payment” and “talk to them about that concern.” Aim for accurate, conventional collocations suited to a formal complaint, and check spelling carefully. More precise wording would make the request sound both clearer and more professional without requiring unusually advanced vocabulary.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The response attempts both simple and longer sentences, and the sequence of events is generally understandable. However, control is inconsistent, and errors occur in basic sentence patterns as well as longer constructions. Examples include “I requesting you” instead of a correctly formed request, “I am a simran I rented a flat” without a clear sentence boundary, and “because am doing full time job,” which omits necessary grammatical elements. Tense shifts also occur in “I go to my bed and slept,” while capitalisation and punctuation are unreliable. Practise forming complete sentences with consistent past tense for the events and present tense for the ongoing problem. Breaking long sentences into shorter, correctly punctuated units will improve accuracy and readability.
