Student answer (Band 6.5)
Dear Sir or Madam,
I am writing this to express my issues that I am facing due to neighbour who also rented their accomodation from your agency.
The main problem is that playing a too much loud video games at a mignight, which create lots of disturbance to me. Additionally, this problem was happening since they shifted last month and I already requested them to use limited volume, however it was overlooked.
Furthermore, the noise affects me a lot as I am unable to concentrate on my studies and sometimes I suffer from inadequate sleep, which makes me feel exhausted and tired. Moreover, last week I have to shift forcefully to my friend's flat for my studies, due to lots of noise.
I would appreciate if you take prompt action for this behaviour. If it is possible you may change my flat to other tower so that I can live peacefully.
Thank you for the time to read my letter. I lood foward to hearing from you soon.
Yours faithfully,
Pankaj Dubey

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.5
The letter addresses all three required points and maintains a clear, appropriate purpose. You identify when the issue began (“since they shifted last month”), explain its effects on your studies and sleep, and request action, including the possibility of moving to another tower. The detail that you stayed at a friend’s flat helps show the seriousness of the disruption. To make the response more fully developed, specify a practical first step for the agency, such as contacting the neighbour or enforcing quiet hours, rather than relying mainly on the broad request to “take prompt action.” Overall, the relevant points are clear and supported, though the requested remedy could be more precise.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.0
The letter has a clear progression: it introduces the complaint, explains its duration, describes the impact, and then makes a request. Paragraphing supports this sequence, and linking expressions such as “Additionally,” “Furthermore,” and “Moreover” help connect related details. The closing is also appropriate for a formal letter. However, several transitions are used in a similar, somewhat mechanical way, and the opening sentence is less direct than it could be. A clearer sequence of time, impact, and requested action, with fewer repeated additive linkers, would make the organisation feel more natural and the connections between ideas more flexible.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use vocabulary relevant to the complaint, including “disturbance,” “concentrate,” “inadequate sleep,” and “exhausted,” so the reader can understand the problem and its effects. However, the range and control are limited by noticeable spelling and collocation errors, including “accomodation,” “at a mignight,” “limited volume,” and “I lood foward.” Some phrases are also unnatural, such as “express my issues” and “change my flat to other tower.” These choices sometimes make the letter less fluent, even though the main meaning remains clear. Build a bank of natural formal complaint phrases and check spelling and word combinations carefully before submitting.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You attempt both simple and complex sentence forms, for example, the sentence explaining that noise prevents you from concentrating and sometimes affects your sleep. However, several sentences contain grammatical errors that reduce accuracy. “The main problem is that playing…” is an incomplete construction; “the main problem is that they play…” would be complete. In “this problem was happening since they shifted,” the tense pattern is incorrect, and “last week I have to shift” also needs a past-tense form. Articles and sentence structure need attention in phrases such as “due to neighbour” and “if you take prompt action.” Practise forming complete clauses and checking tense consistency, especially when describing events that began in the past and continue now.
