Dear Sir or Madam,
Student answer (Band 6.5)
Dear Sir,
I am writing to bring to your attention regarding the loud noise from my neighbor's apartment every late night. I have previously reported this issue to your accommodation agency but not effective action has been taken so far.
It has been two months since I am struggling with the disturbance of loud video game sounds. I have discussed it with the neighbor many times but he still continues to play online games up to midnight on high volume. I would like to mention here that this habit is contributing a significant amount of problems in my daily routine. Mainly, I am not able to sleep at night because of loud sounds which further keeps me tired for the next day. As a result, I am having difficulties to concentrate on my work like as well. Additionally, I have been feeling really unwell due to insufficient sleep.
I would like to suggest few solutions to this problem. Firstly, your company can give him a written waring letter about the consequences of playing video games on loud sound till the late night. Secondly, we can suggest him an appropriate time to play video games so other could not get disturbed.
These solution would greatly overcome this situation. Thank you for your time and consideration. I would look forward to your prompt response.
Yours faithfully
Dany

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.5
The letter addresses all three required points and maintains a clear, appropriate purpose: you explain that the disturbance has lasted two months, describe its effects on sleep, energy and concentration, and request action from the agency. The proposed written warning and suggestion of agreed playing hours make your request specific. These details support a strong response, although the requested action could be developed further—for example, by asking the agency to contact the neighbour directly and follow up if the noise continues. The opening also says you have reported the issue before, but does not explain when that earlier report was made or what response you received. Overall, the key information is clear and relevant, with some scope to make the request more fully developed.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.0
The letter is organised in a clear sequence: it introduces the complaint, explains its duration and effects, proposes solutions, and closes politely. Paragraphing helps the reader distinguish these stages, and signposts such as “Firstly,” “Secondly,” and “As a result” make relationships between ideas easy to follow. Some linking is a little mechanical, particularly the numbered suggestions, and the final sentence, “These solution would greatly overcome this situation,” refers back to the proposals imprecisely. The effects paragraph also moves through several consequences without much variation in how they are connected. To strengthen the progression, use clearer references such as “These measures” and link each effect directly to its cause.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
You use an adequate range of vocabulary for a formal complaint, including “disturbance,” “consequences,” “insufficient sleep,” and “prompt response.” These choices communicate the issue and its impact clearly, and the tone is generally suitable. However, some word combinations and forms are inaccurate or unnatural, such as “bring to your attention regarding,” “a significant amount of problems,” and “playing video games on loud sound.” There are also spelling and word-choice slips, including “waring” and “overcome this situation.” These do not prevent understanding, but they limit precision and naturalness. Aim to learn common complaint-letter collocations and check spelling and countable/uncountable forms when editing.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0
The response includes both simple statements and more developed sentences, for example the sentence beginning “As a result” and the clause “because of loud sounds.” This gives the letter some structural variety, and the main message remains understandable. Some grammatical errors persist, however. “It has been two months since I am struggling” uses an unsuitable tense; “I have been struggling for two months” would be more accurate. In “I am having difficulties to concentrate,” the verb pattern should be “difficulty concentrating” or “difficulties concentrating.” There are also agreement and article issues in “These solution” and “suggest few solutions.” Review tense choices, verb patterns, and singular/plural agreement, then proofread punctuation and spacing.
