Dear Sir or Madam,
Student answer (Band 6.5)
Dear Sir/Madam,
I am writing in regards to my next door neighbour who has been playing loud video games at midnight disturbing my sleep.
I have moved to this flat 2 days back and the issue of my next door neighbour playing loud video games started from the first night itself. As soon as i went to sleep after moving all the furniture in my flat, my neighbours started playing loud video games.
Due to the loud noise it is getting really difficult for me to sleep at night and becasue of that it is also affecting my productivity at my workplace due to lack of sleep. And I have to wake up early in the morning to go to my work.
I am requesting your agency to communicate with my neighbour and inform them about the problem they are causing due to loud noise and also educate them about the rules and regulation about the accomodation.
I am hoping an immediate solution to this.
Your faithfully,
ABC

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0
The letter addresses all three required points and maintains a clear, appropriate purpose. You explain that the disturbance began on your first night in the flat, describe its effects on your sleep and work productivity, and ask the agency to contact the neighbour and explain the accommodation rules. These details make the complaint relevant and understandable. To strengthen the response further, develop the requested action more specifically: for example, ask the agency to remind the neighbour of quiet hours and let you know what steps it will take if the noise continues. The closing request for an “immediate solution” is clear, but could be more precise about the outcome you expect.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.0
The information is arranged in a clear progression: you introduce the complaint, explain when it began, describe its impact, and then state what you want the agency to do. Separate paragraphs help the reader follow these stages, and links such as “Due to” and “because of that” show the relationship between the noise and its consequences. The sequence is easy to understand throughout. To make the organisation more polished, avoid repeating “loud video games” in close succession and use a reference such as “this disturbance” after the issue has been introduced. The final request and sign-off could also be connected more smoothly to the preceding paragraph.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
Your vocabulary is sufficient to communicate the complaint and its effects, with useful phrases such as “disturbing my sleep,” “lack of sleep,” and “affecting my productivity.” However, the range is somewhat repetitive, particularly in the repeated use of “loud video games” and “problem.” Some word choices and spelling errors reduce precision, including “in regards to,” “becasue,” and “accomodation.” The phrase “educate them about the rules and regulation” is understandable but not natural in this context. Aim for more precise complaint vocabulary and check spelling and collocations carefully; this would make the letter sound more fluent and professional without changing its clear meaning.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0
You use a mix of simple and more developed sentence forms, and the main message remains clear. For example, the sentence explaining that the noise affects both your sleep and workplace productivity links related consequences effectively. Some grammatical errors remain, however. “I have moved to this flat 2 days back” uses an awkward tense and time expression; “I moved into this flat two days ago” would be more accurate. In “I am hoping an immediate solution to this,” the verb pattern is incomplete; write “I am hoping for an immediate solution.” Also check capitalisation of “I,” plural agreement in “rules and regulation,” and the conventional closing “Yours faithfully.”
