Student answer (Band 6.5)

Dear Sir or Madam,

I hope this letter finds you well,I am writing this letter regarding an issue which was created by the neighbour who also rented the flat from your agency and they are playing games on their computers with loud noice every night.

Firstly, they started playing video games at late night and with high volume and this issue started approximately two weeks ago, right after they moved into our neighbouring appartment.

Moreover, the constant shouting, bass, andsound effects between midnight and 3:00 am leaves you severely sleep deprived, causing fatigue and headaches. As my job requires high alertness and physical precision it is hard to focus because of the less sleep which i am getting due to loud noise.

However,I personally tried to convey the message regarding the noise they are creating while playing games,But they are not taking this into consideration.

In result,I would kindly request the property management company directly to issue a written notice or remind them regarding lease terms and polices on noise disturbances.

Kind Regards,

Dhruv

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.5

The letter addresses all three required points and maintains a clear, appropriately formal purpose. You identify when the problem began (“approximately two weeks ago, right after they moved in”), explain its effects through sleep deprivation, fatigue, headaches, and difficulty concentrating at work, and request that the agency issue a written notice or remind the neighbours of the noise rules. These details make the complaint relevant and persuasive. To develop the response further, make the requested action more specific—for example, ask the agency to contact the tenants promptly and follow up if the disturbance continues. The explanation of your own attempt to resolve the issue is useful, though it could be linked more directly to why agency intervention is now needed.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.0

The information follows a clear progression: you introduce the complaint, explain when it began, describe its impact, mention your attempt to address it, and state what you want the agency to do. This makes the letter easy to follow. Paragraphing would make the stages more distinct, particularly by separating the effects of the noise from your request for action. Some linking expressions, such as “Firstly,” “Moreover,” and “However,” help signal relationships, but “However” does not clearly contrast with the preceding point, and “In result” is not a natural transition. Use fewer, more precise connectors and ensure pronouns such as “they” have an unmistakable reference. These refinements would make the cohesion less noticeable and more fluent.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

You use an adequate range of vocabulary for a formal complaint, including “sleep deprived,” “fatigue,” “physical precision,” “written notice,” and “noise disturbances.” These choices communicate the seriousness of the problem and the action you seek. There are, however, some spelling and word-choice inaccuracies, including “noice,” “appartment,” and “polices,” as well as the awkward phrase “issue which was created by the neighbour.” “Bass” is understandable but could be expressed more precisely as “loud bass” or “low-frequency noise.” Aim for accurate spelling and natural collocations, especially in the opening and closing request. This would make your vocabulary more precise and consistently appropriate to a formal letter.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt a mix of sentence forms, including a complex explanation of how the noise affects your work: “As my job requires high alertness and physical precision it is hard to focus…” The main message remains understandable, but some grammatical and punctuation errors reduce accuracy. For example, the opening joins two independent clauses with only a comma, and “the constant shouting, bass, and sound effects … leaves” has a subject–verb agreement error; the plural subject requires “leave.” Capitalisation after commas is also inconsistent (“But”), and several sentences run together without spaces after punctuation. Use full stops or conjunctions to separate ideas, check subject–verb agreement, and punctuate complex sentences carefully. These corrections would improve control while preserving your range.
