Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear Sir or Madam,
I am writing to express my dissatifaction from my neighbour regarding loud video games noise that come from his flat every night for the past one month.
This problems starts when his cousin came from his town for summer holidays and for the past one month every night they play the vedoe games very loudly.
My work starts early in the morning around 5 AM so I sleep early but for past some days due to their loud noise I can not sleep properly and that hampers my productivity throughout the day. I told them so many times to slow the volume of their video games but they did not listen. Therefore, I want you to take strict action against them by giving notice or giving them fine related to loud noice.
I look forward to hear your response regarding this problem.
Yours faithfully,
Bhanu

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
You address all three points: you say the noise began about a month ago, explain that your early 5 a.m. start makes it difficult to sleep and affects your productivity, and request that the agency issue a notice or impose a fine. The purpose and requested action are clear. However, the explanation of the start is somewhat repetitive, and the effect on you could be developed further—for example, by describing how often you are disturbed or giving a specific consequence at work. The response is also two words below the required minimum of 150. Adding a little relevant detail would help you meet the requirement while making the complaint more fully supported.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The letter follows a sensible order: it introduces the complaint, gives background, describes its impact, and ends with a request and a polite closing. This makes the overall message easy to follow. Some links between ideas are less smooth, however. The two opening sentences repeat the one-month timeframe, and “Therefore” is attached directly to the preceding sentence without a space after the full stop. The body is also presented as one long paragraph, so separating the background from the impact and request would make the progression clearer. These are manageable issues; more deliberate paragraphing and less repetition would make the organisation feel more polished.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use enough vocabulary to communicate the complaint and its consequences, including “dissatisfaction,” “productivity,” and “take strict action.” However, several spelling and word-choice errors reduce precision: “dissatifaction,” “vedoe,” and “noice” are misspelled, while “noise that come from his flat” and “slow the volume” are unnatural combinations. “This problems” also shows an inaccurate word form. These errors do not prevent the reader from understanding the main message, but they make the letter less fluent and professional. Check spelling carefully and learn common collocations for complaints, such as “noise coming from the flat” and “turn down the volume.”
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You attempt both simple and more complex sentences, such as the sentence linking your early work start to your difficulty sleeping and reduced productivity. The main ideas remain understandable, but some grammatical errors are noticeable. For example, “This problems starts” has a mismatch between the demonstrative, noun, and verb; “for past some days” is missing an article; and “I look forward to hear” uses the wrong verb pattern. The opening sentence also has a relative clause with incorrect subject–verb agreement. Review agreement, articles, and verb patterns, then proofread punctuation and spacing. More accurate control of these forms would strengthen the otherwise clear message.
