Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear Sir or Madam,
I am writting this letter to make a complaint against the neighbour to whom you gave the appartment for rent.
I am Saurabh Patel and last month I rented this appartment by your agency. I was told by your employee that this appartment is quiet and neighbors are very friendly as well as supportive. However, We do not feel like this.
My neighbour also rented out through your agency and they are playing loud music and video games till late night which is disturbing my work and sleep.
currently, I am preparing for my pharmacy examination for my better future but I could not concentrate on my study. Furthermore, due to the loud music, my children cannot sleep properly and eventually get affected during the school time which I believe very frustating.
So, I would urge you to inform them to stop playing music at late night or they can slow down the volume while playing games. If they will not stop doing this,I have to call police and make a. omplaint against him for disturbing us.
I would really appreciate if you could help us in this metter.
I am lookong forword to hearing soon and hopfully you will resolve the problem.
Thank you for your time and consideration.
Yours faithfully,
Saurabh

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
You address all three points: you say the issue arose after moving in last month, explain that the noise disrupts your study, sleep and children’s school routine, and request that the agency contact the neighbour. The purpose is clear and the details are relevant. Some points, however, are less fully developed: the timing is not precise, since “last month” refers to when you rented the flat rather than clearly stating when the gaming began. The requested action is also somewhat mixed with a threat to call the police. To strengthen the letter, state when the noise first started and make a clear, proportionate request, such as asking the agency to remind the neighbour of quiet hours and follow up if the problem continues.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The letter follows a generally logical sequence: it introduces the complaint, describes its effects, makes a request and closes politely. Paragraph breaks help distinguish the background from the impact and proposed action, and linking expressions such as “However” and “Furthermore” show an effort to connect ideas. This meets the lower-band expectation of an overall coherent arrangement and shows some features of stronger progression. At times, though, connections are awkward or unclear—for example, “However, We do not feel like this” does not clearly explain the contrast, and the sentence about the children’s school time is difficult to follow. Use clearer transitions and keep each paragraph focused on one function: when the noise began, its effects, and the action requested.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use enough vocabulary to communicate the complaint and its consequences, including “disturbing,” “concentrate,” “resolve the problem” and “appreciate.” There are also attempts at more formal language, such as “I would urge you” and “Thank you for your time and consideration.” However, spelling and word-choice errors are noticeable, including “writting,” “appartment,” “frustating,” “metter” and “hopfully.” Some phrases are also unnatural or imprecise, such as “make a complaint against the neighbour to whom you gave the apartment for rent” and “slow down the volume.” These do not prevent the reader from understanding the main message, but they limit precision. Proofread spelling and learn natural complaint-letter collocations, such as “reduce the volume” and “raise a complaint.”
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You attempt both simple and more complex sentences, for example, “Furthermore, due to the loud music, my children cannot sleep properly” and the conditional sentence beginning “If they will not stop.” The main message remains understandable, but some grammatical errors recur. In the conditional, use “If they do not stop,” rather than “If they will not stop”; “I would really appreciate if” needs “it” before “if”; and “I am lookong forword” should be “I am looking forward.” There are also issues with capitalisation and punctuation, such as the capital “We” after a comma and the run-together “this,I.” Aim for accurate conditional forms and carefully punctuated sentences, while continuing to use a mix of sentence structures.
