Dear Sir or Madam,
Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear Sir,
I am writing to bring your attention towards the issue i have been facing with the neighbour who rents the flat from your agency. He plays a video game in a high volume.
This problem began when the neighbour brought a new video game last week. He plays a video game in a high volume which continues late at night.
Because of the high volume, I am not able to focus on my studies as well as my work. It also affects my sleep at night.
I also try to talk him personally, but the problem remains the same. I would like to request that you talk to him on my behalf and remind him about the rules and regulations of living in the flat.
Thank you for your time and consideration.
Your sincerely,
komal

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
You address all three required points: you say the problem began “last week,” explain that the noise disrupts your studies, work and sleep, and ask the agency to speak to the neighbour and remind him of the rules. These details make the purpose clear and relevant. However, some points are less fully developed than others: the start of the problem is linked to the neighbour buying a game, but you could clarify whether the late-night noise began at that time and how often it occurs. The requested action is also quite general; you could ask the agency to contact him promptly and ensure quiet hours are respected. The response is 13 words below the required minimum, so there is limited space to develop these details.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The letter has a clear overall arrangement: you introduce the complaint, explain its effects, and then state what you want the agency to do. Paragraphing helps separate these stages, and phrases such as “Because of” make the relationship between the noise and its effects easy to follow. This coherent progression meets the task well. To make the organisation more polished, avoid repeating the same information in the first two paragraphs: both say that the neighbour plays a game loudly late at night. You could use the second paragraph to add a specific example or frequency instead. The closing is appropriate, though a more conventional sign-off would make the letter feel more complete.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
Your vocabulary is adequate for communicating the complaint, with relevant terms such as “neighbour,” “high volume,” “studies,” and “rules and regulations.” The reader can understand the problem and its impact. However, some word choices and collocations are awkward or repetitive: “bring your attention towards” is less natural than “bring to your attention,” and “plays a video game in a high volume” would be more idiomatically expressed as “plays video games at a high volume.” Repeating “high volume” and “video game” also limits variety. Use more precise expressions such as “excessive noise” or “late-night gaming,” and check spelling and capitalisation, including “I.”
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0
You use a mix of simple sentences and a more complex structure, as in “Because of the high volume, I am not able to focus on my studies as well as my work.” Most sentences communicate their meaning clearly, and the effects of the noise are easy to understand. Some grammatical errors remain. In “I also try to talk him personally,” the verb pattern should be “try to talk to him,” and “I also tried” would fit the past attempt more clearly. The sentence “He plays a video game in a high volume which continues late at night” has an unclear relative clause; separate the ideas or say that he plays late at night. Capitalise “I” throughout and use the standard closing “Yours sincerely.”
