Student answer (Band 7.0)

Dear Sir,

I am writing this letter to draw your attention on our neighbour's inappropriate behaviour.

I am Shraddha Kapadia. Recently, I have signed a one year lease from your agency for the unit 113. From the last one week, our neighbours nuisance has been increased. They have started playing their video games in the midnight till 4:00 am in the morning. They live in the unit 115, right beside to my unit. I have already talked with them politely but my words fell on deaf ears.

Because of the noise, I won't be able to sleep in the night. As a result, I have been reached late at the office. Apart from this, I can not concentrate on my work because lack of sleep. Moreover, my kid is only 2 years old and his sleep cycle is also disturbed.

I would like you to give them a warning letter. Even after the warning letter, if they will not change their behaviour then I would like you to give them a month notice.

I am hoping to hear from you soon.

Thank you for your understandings.

Yours sincerely,

Shraddha Kapadia

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 8.0

The letter covers all three required points clearly. You identify when the issue began (“From the last one week”), explain its effects on your sleep, work, and young child, and make a specific request for a warning followed by further action if the behaviour continues. The details about the neighbour’s unit and your attempt to speak with them help make the complaint credible and well developed. The requested action is also clear, although the proposed “month notice” could be stated more precisely—for example, whether you mean a formal notice to remedy the disturbance or a notice to end the tenancy. Overall, the purpose and desired outcome are consistently clear, with only this minor point needing clarification.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.0

The letter follows a clear progression: it introduces the complaint, gives the background and timing, describes the consequences, and then requests action. Paragraphing supports this sequence, and linking phrases such as “As a result” and “Moreover” make the effects easy to follow. The opening and closing also suit a formal complaint. Some connections are slightly mechanical, particularly the repeated listing of consequences, and “Apart from this” does not add a particularly distinct relationship between the ideas. You could make the progression more natural by grouping the effects into one concise explanation and linking them directly to your request. Overall, the organisation is clear and logical, with some room for more flexible cohesion.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

You use an adequate range of vocabulary for a formal complaint, including “inappropriate behaviour,” “warning letter,” and “sleep cycle is also disturbed.” These choices communicate the problem and its impact, and the reader can understand your meaning throughout. However, several expressions are inaccurate or unnatural: “draw your attention on” would be “draw your attention to,” “our neighbours nuisance” needs a more natural construction such as “the nuisance caused by our neighbour,” and “month notice” is unclear. “Thank you for your understandings” is also not idiomatic. Focus on accurate collocations and formal phrasing rather than adding more elaborate vocabulary; this would make the letter sound more natural and precise.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0

The response includes both simple sentences and some longer structures, such as “Even after the warning letter, if they will not change their behaviour then…” and the sentence explaining the effects on your work and child. Meaning remains clear, but some grammatical errors occur. Examples include “From the last one week” (use “For the past week”), “I have been reached late” (use “I have arrived late”), and “I can not concentrate … because lack of sleep” (use “because of the lack of sleep”). The conditional request would be more accurate as “If they do not change their behaviour after the warning, I would like you to…” Review tense choices, prepositions, and sentence patterns, while retaining the clear structure of your sentences.
