Student answer (Band 5.5)

Dear sir,

I rent a flat from your acoomadation agency. I am writing to inform you about loud sounds makes by my negibhour.

2 months ago and they bought videos games after on a regular basis they play extremely loud games. They have become their routine on a daily basis and till 2:00pm at night.

Regarding noise affect, I am both working or student person. After return home I do my studies and these sounds become a hurdle in my studies. I cannot focus on my studies. I am already exhausted from my work then I back to my home I could relax or sleep properly.

Could you please help me and tell them they reduce their games sounds or use handphones and talk with each other slowly. It would be greatful if you take charge or actions against the noise issue.

I am looking forward to your action.

Yours sincerely,

Madhuri.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

You address all three required points: you say the noise began “2 months ago,” explain that it disrupts your studies and prevents you from relaxing or sleeping, and ask the agency to intervene. The purpose of the letter is clear and the details are relevant. However, the start of the problem is not fully clear: “they bought videos games after” does not explain precisely when the neighbour began playing loudly. Your requested action is also somewhat unclear, as you suggest asking them to lower the volume or use headphones, then ask the agency to “take charge or actions.” State directly whether you want the agency to contact the neighbour and request quieter behaviour. This would make the less-developed points as clear as the impact on you.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The letter has a recognisable progression from introducing the complaint, to describing its effects, to requesting action, and the paragraph breaks help distinguish these stages. Phrases such as “Regarding noise affect” and “Could you please” signal the shift between points. However, some connections are faulty or unclear. The opening of the second paragraph, “2 months ago and they bought videos games after,” makes the timeline difficult to follow, while “After return home” and “then I back to my home” repeat the same idea without a clear sequence. Organise the timeline in a complete sentence, then explain the effects in a more direct order. A clearer closing request would also help the letter progress smoothly toward its purpose.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use vocabulary relevant to a noise complaint, including “extremely loud,” “hurdle,” “focus,” and “take charge,” so the reader can understand the main concern. However, the range is limited and several word-choice, collocation, and spelling problems make parts of the letter difficult to interpret. For example, “loud sounds makes” and “games sounds” are not natural expressions, while “use handphones” and “talk with each other slowly” do not clearly convey the intended request. There are also spelling errors such as “aco ommodation” (written as “acoomadation”), “negibhour,” and “greatful.” Build a small set of accurate complaint-related phrases and check spelling carefully; this will make your meaning more precise and professional.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple and more extended sentences, for example, “I cannot focus on my studies” and “After return home I do my studies and these sounds become a hurdle in my studies.” The main message is generally recoverable, but some sentence structures and verb forms are inaccurate enough to interrupt the reader. “Loud sounds makes” lacks a clear grammatical structure, and “After return home” needs a correctly formed clause. The sequence “I could relax or sleep properly” also does not fit the intended meaning after “I back to my home.” Use complete clauses with a clear subject and verb, and check tense and verb forms when describing the routine and its effects. More accurate sentence construction would make the complaint easier to follow.
