Student answer (Band 6.5)
Dear Sir or Madam,
I hope you are doing good. I am writing to express the displeasure experience with one of my neighbours Mr. James. His apartment is right next to my house. In the begining, when I shifted here, everything was quite comfortable. However, since last one month, there's been contsant loud noises coming from their home especially at night times. I belive his younger cousin is visiting his place frequently with his frriends and they play video games all night.
As I work for an international client, most of my meeting are in night time. Due to loud noise, it creates alot of distraction and also impacts my work. I even lost an important project due to unprofessional enviorment.
I even tried to communicate this thing with Mr. James at my end. Despite his assurance, same thing happened again. I sincerely request you to talk with them and I believe they will listen to you as your agency helped them in getting this home. Please let them know the society rules and take further action is required. I hope this matter will be solved soon.
Thank you.
Regards,
Ginni

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.5
You address all three requested points and maintain a clear, appropriate purpose throughout. The timing is specific (“since last one month”), the effect is explained through your night-time meetings and the lost project, and you ask the agency to speak to the neighbour and explain the rules. These details make the complaint relevant and supported. To make the response more fully developed, clarify exactly what action you expect—for example, a formal warning or follow-up if the noise continues—and state the hours when it is most disruptive. The explanation about the cousin and friends is plausible, but it is presented as a belief rather than confirmed information; focusing on the noise you have directly experienced would make the complaint more precise.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.0
The letter has a clear overall progression: you introduce the complaint, explain its effect, describe your attempt to resolve it, and make a request. Paragraphing supports these stages, and links such as “However,” “Despite his assurance,” and “Due to” help the reader follow the reasoning. The sequence is generally logical, though some connections are less smooth: the shift from the neighbour’s visitors to your work schedule could be more explicitly linked, and “I even tried to communicate this thing with Mr. James at my end” is difficult to follow. Use clearer references and transitions, such as “I have already spoken to Mr James, but the noise has continued,” and keep the request in a distinct closing paragraph.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
Your vocabulary is sufficient to communicate the complaint and its consequences, with relevant expressions such as “loud noises,” “distraction,” “important project,” and “take further action.” However, several noticeable word-choice, collocation, and spelling problems reduce precision and naturalness. “Express the displeasure experience” is not an appropriate phrase; “raise a concern” would be more idiomatic. “At my end” and “all night” are understandable but could be expressed more precisely in this formal letter. Spelling errors such as “begining,” “contsant,” “belive,” and “enviorment” also stand out. Aim for accurate, natural phrases rather than adding vocabulary that sounds formal but does not fit the context.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You attempt a mix of sentence forms, including time clauses and contrast, as in “when I shifted here” and “Despite his assurance, same thing happened again.” The main message remains understandable, but errors in sentence construction, agreement, articles, and prepositions occur often enough to affect fluency. For example, “most of my meeting are in night time” needs a plural noun and a more natural time expression, while “same thing happened again” needs an article. “Due to loud noise, it creates” also has an unclear subject and would be clearer as “The loud noise distracts me.” Practise checking each sentence for a clear subject and verb, and use accurate forms such as “I moved here,” “my meetings are at night,” and “the same thing happened again.”
