Student answer (Band 6.0)

Dear Sir or Madam,

I would like to address an ongoing issue at my accommodation. When i have rented out this place flat from your agency it was very fascinating and quiet place moreover it was near to my work place as well which make it convenient for me.

From last month, I am suffering from loud music of video games from my neighbour's flat. I accept it happening at some time, But it happening frequently everyday for whole time and it is unbearable. Moreover my bedroom wall is shared with that flat whhich make it challenging for me to sleep in morning as I work in night shifts. Because of this lack of sleep i am not able to concentrate on my work efficiently.

If you can contact to them and address that on going problem with them it would be much appreciated. For solution may be they can use some aquistic pannels which can absorb the sound or can change the room which can also turn down the volume a bit.

Yours Sincerly.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

You address all three points: you say the problem began “from last month,” explain that the noise disrupts sleep and concentration at work, and ask the agency to contact the neighbour. The detail about working night shifts makes the impact clear and relevant. Your proposed remedies—sound-absorbing panels or changing rooms—also show an effort to be specific. However, the request could be developed more fully: for example, ask the agency to remind the neighbour of quiet hours and explain what follow-up you expect if the noise continues. The opening description of the flat being convenient is less relevant to the complaint. Overall, the main purpose is clear, but some ideas and the requested action need more precise development.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The letter has a clear overall shape: it introduces the issue, describes its effects, and ends with a request. Paragraphing helps the reader follow these stages, and links such as “Moreover” and “Because of this” show relationships between ideas. The progression is generally logical, but some connections are awkward or repetitive. For instance, “Moreover” introduces the shared-wall detail, while the sentence beginning “If you can contact to them” moves to the request without clearly setting out what action you want first. The first paragraph also spends space on the flat’s convenience before the complaint is established. To strengthen cohesion, keep each paragraph focused on one purpose and use clearer transitions between the problem, its consequences, and the action requested.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

You use enough vocabulary to explain the complaint and its effects, including “unbearable,” “concentrate,” and “absorb the sound.” These choices make the situation understandable, and you attempt some less common language. However, several word choices and collocations are inaccurate or unnatural, such as “address an ongoing issue at my accommodation,” “it was very fascinating,” and “turn down the volume a bit.” Spelling errors in “whhich,” “aquistic,” and “Sincerly” also reduce accuracy. Aim for precise, conventional phrases suited to a formal complaint, such as “raise a concern,” “excessive noise,” and “install acoustic panels.” This would make your vocabulary more natural and appropriately formal.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt both simple and more complex sentences, including the explanation beginning “Because of this lack of sleep” and the conditional request “If you can contact to them…”. The main meaning is usually clear, but some grammatical errors remain. Examples include “When i have rented out this place flat,” “which make it convenient,” and “it happening frequently everyday,” where tense, agreement, or sentence construction needs correction. There are also issues with articles and punctuation, such as the capitalisation of “i” and the comma before “But.” Practise forming accurate past-time statements (“The problem began last month”) and checking subject–verb agreement (“which makes it convenient”). More consistent control would make the letter smoother and more professional.
