Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear Sir or Madam,
I am writing to express my dissatisfaction with my recent moving in your apartment. Since I moved in, I found my neghbour was being very disrecpectful about social expectation. He plays very loud music at night and he lives next to my apartment which is constantly causing my sleep distruptions. I usually have to wake up early in the morning as my shift starts from 7:00 AM. I talked to Mr Nahid several times about this issue, but he was being ignorant the whole time. Even he made things harder by bringing his friends for late night party and the whole time they laugh and talk very loudly. Overall, I like the neighbourhood which is pretty safe and convenient to commute at night.
Considering these circumstances, I hope you will take this matter seriuosly and take proper action to resolve the issue. I look forward to hearing from you soon.
Your faithfully
naz

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
You address the central problem and explain its effect: the neighbour makes loud noise at night, disrupting your sleep before an early shift. You also mention that you have spoken to him several times and ask the agency to take action. However, the task is only partly fulfilled because you do not clearly say when the problem began; “Since I moved in” is vague, and the opening refers to dissatisfaction with moving rather than identifying the noise complaint. Your request for “proper action” is also general, so the agency is not told what you want it to do, such as contact the neighbour or enforce quiet hours. Develop these points more explicitly to make the purpose and requested outcome clear.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The letter has a recognisable structure: it introduces the complaint, gives details about the noise and its impact, and ends with a request and expectation of a reply. The sequence is generally easy to follow, and phrases such as “Since I moved in” and “Considering these circumstances” help connect ideas. However, the paragraph containing the complaint moves from the neighbour’s behaviour to your work schedule, previous conversations, parties, and then a positive comment about the neighbourhood. That final point interrupts the progression and is not clearly linked to your request. Group the background and timing together, then explain the effects, and finish with a specific action request. This would make the organisation more purposeful and cohesion less abrupt.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
You use an adequate range of vocabulary for a complaint, including “dissatisfaction,” “sleep disruptions,” “ignorant,” and “resolve the issue.” These choices make the main concern understandable, and you attempt some more formal language appropriate to an agency. However, several word choices or collocations are inaccurate or awkward, such as “recent moving,” “social expectation,” and “take this matter seriously” being misspelled as “seriuosly.” There are also spelling errors in “neghbour,” “disrecpectful,” and “distruptions.” These do not prevent the reader from understanding the complaint, but they reduce precision and polish. Prefer natural phrases such as “since I moved into the flat” and “disregard for other residents,” and proofread spelling carefully.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You use a mix of simple and more developed sentence forms, including the reason clause in “as my shift starts from 7:00 AM” and the contrast introduced by “but.” Most of the message remains understandable. Some grammatical errors, however, affect accuracy: “I am writing to express my dissatisfaction with my recent moving in your apartment” has an incorrect noun phrase and preposition, while “I found my neighbour was being” is not a natural or well-formed construction in this context. The sentence beginning “Even he made things harder” also needs a clearer structure, for example, “He even made matters worse by inviting friends to late-night parties.” Work on verb patterns, articles and prepositions, and use punctuation to separate the longer ideas more clearly.
