Student answer (Band 6.0)

These days, a increasing amount of individuals with health issues are trying alternative medicines and treatments rather than visiting their tend to doctor. I think this is a negative impact on human body. This essay will discuss why it is a negative development.

First and foremost, one of the main reasons is that if a patient faced a problem and go to doctor then doctor give some checkup for whole body. This is because when doctor know about the problems then take exact action for patient. Doctor provide other medicine instead of exist medicine. Moreover, doctor also offer some advice that maintain food, workout everyday, eat vegetable and so on. For this reason, patient get well soon and feel better. As a result, go to doctor is the best way to get well soon and find the health problems easily.

On the other hand, the primary reasons is that sometimes when people feel unwell they eat medicine from local store and take necessary treatments as they know from doctor in past. This is because often individuals has not enough money to go to doctor. Furthermore, they think the issue is normal. For instance, after taking these steps they feel too much unwell. Sometimes, they fall in serious situation. Therefore, eating medicine and take treatments is not a good way to save a life instead of go to doctor. That's why i think this is a negative development.

In conclusion, a number of people increase with health issues are take treatments to save their life rather than visiting their usual doctor.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses the prompt by taking a clear position that the trend is negative. However, the development of ideas is limited. The arguments regarding the benefits of seeing a doctor are repetitive and lack depth, focusing primarily on basic checkups rather than exploring the nuances of alternative medicine. The second paragraph attempts to explain why people choose alternatives (cost, perceived minor issues), but the explanation is underdeveloped and lacks specific, illustrative examples. To reach a higher band, you should provide more detailed reasoning and concrete examples to support your claims, ensuring that the discussion remains focused on the comparison between conventional and alternative treatments.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The essay is organised into paragraphs, which is a positive feature. However, the progression of ideas is often disjointed due to the limited range of cohesive devices. While you use transition words like 'First and foremost' and 'On the other hand', the internal flow within paragraphs is often mechanical. For instance, the sentences in the second paragraph are short and choppy, making the logical connection between ideas feel forced. Additionally, referencing is sometimes unclear, such as in the phrase 'take these steps', which does not clearly link back to the previous sentence. Improving the use of linking words and pronouns would help the text flow more naturally.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task but remains quite basic and repetitive. You frequently use simple terms like 'doctor', 'medicine', and 'get well'. There are also some noticeable errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'tend to doctor' instead of 'general practitioner' or 'usual doctor', and 'maintain food' instead of 'maintain a healthy diet'. To improve, you should aim to incorporate more precise academic vocabulary related to health and medical practices. The current range is sufficient to convey your meaning, but it lacks the flexibility and precision required for higher band scores.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay relies heavily on simple sentence structures. While there are some attempts at complex sentences, they are often marred by grammatical errors, such as 'if a patient faced a problem and go to doctor then doctor give some checkup'. Subject-verb agreement is a recurring issue (e.g., 'individuals has not enough money', 'a number of people increase'). Punctuation is also inconsistent, and there are frequent errors with articles and verb tenses. To improve, you need to focus on mastering basic sentence construction and ensuring subject-verb agreement before attempting more complex grammatical structures. The errors are frequent enough to occasionally cause some difficulty for the reader.
