Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
The response addresses all parts of the task by discussing whether relying on alternative treatments or visiting a doctor is a positive or negative development, and a clear position is presented. However, the development of ideas is limited and somewhat repetitive. For instance, the student states their view that people should visit hospitals and then attempts to support this in the body paragraphs, but the arguments regarding cardiovascular disease and minor coughs remain slightly under-developed. While the prompt discusses 'alternative medicines and treatments', the student frames this partly as home-made remedies vs. doctors. Nevertheless, the main task requirements are met, earning a Band 5.5.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
The essay displays some overall organization with basic paragraphing, separating the introduction, body points, and conclusion. However, progression is frequently disrupted by awkward transitions and mechanical or inaccurate use of cohesive devices, such as 'To Begin with, the fundamental reasons should be considered why' and 'on the other hand, the drawback of this can not be neglected'. Referencing is sometimes unclear, and sentences within paragraphs do not always flow smoothly together. Paragraphing is attempted but lacks sophisticated linking. Overall, the structural framework aligns most closely with a Band 5.0.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
The student demonstrates an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, successfully using terms like 'cardiovascular disease', 'prescription', and 'laboratory test'. However, there are noticeable spelling and word-choice errors throughout, such as 'increase' instead of 'increasing', 'home made' instead of 'home-made', 'diagonsis' instead of 'diagnose', 'energitic energentic', and 'a number of money' instead of 'a lot of money'. These lexical errors and awkward collocations cause some difficulty for the reader and restrict the score to a Band 5.0.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The writer attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, but control over grammar is weak. There are frequent errors in verb tense, subject-verb agreement, and sentence structure, such as 'the health problems are increase steadily', 'individuals prefer the home made remedies to treat this problems', and 'If people suffers from this disorders'. Punctuation is also problematic, including run-on sentences and missing capitalization at the start of clauses like 'on the other hand'. Because frequent errors cause difficulty for the reader, the performance sits at Band 5.0.
