Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

The response attempts to address the prompt regarding alternative medicines and treatments, taking a negative stance ('This is negative development'). However, the development of ideas is limited and somewhat confused. The student frequently shifts focus to poverty, the inability to afford healthcare, and government-built hospitals in India rather than deeply discussing why opting for alternative treatments instead of a doctor is a positive or negative development. Main ideas are under-developed and rely on generalisations and repetitive points, such as people avoiding doctors to save money. Consequently, the response aligns best with Band 5 descriptors, as the task is only partially addressed and the position is not always clearly sustained throughout the essay.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

The essay is divided into four paragraphs, which provides a basic structural framework, but overall progression is lacking. Logical flow between sentences is frequently disrupted by awkward phrasing and abrupt transitions. Cohesive devices are used in a very limited and repetitive manner (e.g., starting consecutive sentences or clauses with 'for example', 'for that', or 'if'). Paragraphing is attempted, but internal cohesion is faulty, and referencing is often unclear, such as pronoun shifts ('they', 'their', 'we') that confuse the subject matter. These features place the response firmly at Band 5 for Coherence and Cohesion.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The vocabulary used is basic and repetitive, frequently impeded by inaccurate word choices and word formation errors (e.g., 'tretment', 'finacially', 'totelly', 'dengerous', 'instante'). The student attempts some topic-related vocabulary such as 'medication', 'disease', and 'hospital', but the range is limited and minimally adequate for the task. Errors in spelling and collocation occur frequently throughout the response, causing occasional strain for the reader. This performance reflects the criteria for Band 5, showing a limited lexical range with noticeable errors that impede smooth reading.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The writer uses a mix of simple and some complex sentence structures, but attempts at complex sentences are frequently faulty (e.g., 'In india, poverty ratio is so high then employment ratio, if a poor person is sick and want to take an appropriate treatment then they can't affort.'). There are frequent grammatical errors involving subject-verb agreement, tense consistency ('were not feel well', 'did not took'), and prepositions. These errors occur in a majority of sentences and occasionally cause difficulty for the reader in discerning the intended meaning, which corresponds directly to the Band 5 descriptors.
