Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

The response addresses the prompt by taking a clear negative stance on the development of using alternative medicines instead of visiting a doctor. The writer provides relevant ideas and examples, such as misdiagnosing chest pain as gas trouble versus a heart issue, which supports the overall position. However, the development of ideas tends to be repetitive and somewhat limited in scope, as the argument circles back to similar points regarding safety and proper diagnosis without deep elaboration. While all parts of the task are addressed, the lack of fully extended supporting arguments places this response firmly at the Band 5 level for Task Achievement.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.0

The response exhibits severe issues with coherence and cohesion, primarily because it is written as a single, massive run-on paragraph. There is no use of conventional paragraphing to separate the introduction, body points, and conclusion. Cohesive devices are either missing, inadequate, or repetitive, with phrases like 'now a days' and 'so' overused to link clauses awkwardly. The overall progression of ideas is hindered by this lack of structural organization. Referencing is sometimes unclear, making it difficult for the reader to follow the logical flow, which aligns with Band 4 descriptors.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The student uses a basic and repetitive vocabulary range throughout the essay, relying heavily on simple terms like 'health', 'disease', and 'medicine'. There are noticeable errors in word choice and spelling, such as 'suceeed', 'harmfull', 'ingerious' (instead of injurious), and 'dignasos' (instead of diagnosis). These lexical limitations and errors occasionally cause difficulty for the reader and demonstrate a limited, minimally adequate range that fits the Band 5 criteria.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.0

The grammatical structure of the essay is heavily compromised by run-on sentences, comma splices, and a lack of proper punctuation. The writer attempts some complex structures, but they are frequently faulty, such as in the sentence: 'If you have a pain in you chest does not mean you have a heart issue it will be a stomach problem...'. Frequent errors in subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'everyone is suffers') and preposition use are evident throughout the text. These frequent errors cause difficulty for the reader and reflect a Band 4 grammatical performance.
