Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 3.0

The response fails to meet the minimum length requirement, containing only 88 words in total, with 18 words copied from the task prompt not counted. Because the text is severely under length, the task is only addressed in a very minimal way. Although the writer manages to establish a clear position that relying on alternative treatments is a negative development, the ideas presented are extremely limited and under-developed. The examples provided, such as referencing traditional healers in Nepal, lack sufficient explanation and fail to adequately explore the prompt. To move to a higher level, the writer would need to write at least 250 words and extend their arguments with fully supported examples.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.0

The essay displays basic information grouping, but ideas are not arranged coherently overall, and there is no clear progression throughout the text. Paragraphing is attempted, but the transition between sentences is abrupt and lacks logical flow. Cohesive devices are either missing or inadequate, making the relationships between ideas difficult to follow. For instance, sentences like 'Due to growing populations differents views over health were there as beliving on witch' fail to connect smoothly to the preceding statement. To improve cohesion, the writer should use clear topic sentences, logical sequencing, and appropriate cohesive links to guide the reader through the arguments.

Lexical Resource: Band 4.5

The vocabulary used is basic and repetitive, employing a limited range that strains the reader's understanding. There are frequent spelling and word-choice errors, such as 'Alots', 'visting', 'differents', and 'siperstitous'. The writer attempts some less common vocabulary items, including 'alternative medicines' and 'supernatural belives', but these are marred by inaccuracies in word form and collocation. To achieve a higher score, the student must expand their vocabulary range, use words more precisely, and improve their spelling and word-formation skills to ensure communication is not impeded.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5

The grammatical range is very limited, consisting mostly of simple and faulty sentence structures. There are frequent errors in verb tenses, subject-verb agreement, and articles, such as 'As the growing populations in the worlds there are also growing in health problems' and 'peoples are more concern'. Punctuation and word forms within grammatical patterns also show frequent inaccuracies that often distort the intended meaning and cause difficulty for the reader. To progress, the writer needs to demonstrate a greater variety of sentence structures and improve basic grammatical accuracy, particularly regarding verb forms and plurals.
