Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.0

The response responds to the task only minimally and fails to meet the word count requirement of 250 words, stopping abruptly at only 180 words. While the writer attempts to address the prompt regarding alternative medicines, the position is confused by meta-language in the introduction where the student writes, 'Bsically this is called apositive and negative essay'. Ideas are extremely limited and under-developed, with brief, disjointed examples that fail to adequately support the main arguments. To reach a higher level, the writer must fully develop their position with extended explanations, provide relevant and coherent examples, and ensure the response meets the minimum length requirement.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.0

Information and ideas are not arranged coherently throughout the text. Although basic transitional markers such as 'On the one hand' and 'In conclusion' are attempted, the overall progression is disrupted by sudden shifts in thought, repetitive phrasing, and unfinished sentences. Paragraphing is disjointed, and the final sentence breaks off mid-thought ('not visiting professionalllists make them more'), which severely damages the flow of information. To improve coherence and cohesion, the writer needs to group related ideas into clear, logical paragraphs, ensure each paragraph has a central topic sentence, and use cohesive devices accurately to guide the reader smoothly through the argument.

Lexical Resource: Band 4.0

The vocabulary used is basic, repetitive, and heavily flawed by spelling and word-form errors that frequently strain the reader. Examples of lexical errors include 'medician' for medicine, 'Bsically', 'conterary', 'professionalllists', and inappropriate word choices such as 'visiting fee' instead of consultation fee. The range of vocabulary is limited and inadequate for discussing academic topics effectively. To achieve a higher band, the writer must expand their lexical repertoire, learn accurate word spellings and collocations, and use less common vocabulary with greater precision to convey meaning clearly without causing confusion for the reader.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5

The response demonstrates a very limited range of sentence structures, relying mostly on simple or faulty complex sentences. Errors are frequent and often distort meaning, such as in the clause 'This mainly reason for this people are observing the effects'. There are persistent problems with subject-verb agreement, missing articles, incorrect prepositions (e.g., 'visiting to a professional doctor'), and punctuation, with multiple errors per sentence. To improve in this area, the writer needs to practise forming accurate simple and complex sentences, focus on correct verb forms and tense consistency, and eliminate basic grammatical slips.
