Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 3.5
The response fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 250 words, as it contains only 161 words, with 21 words copied directly from the prompt not counted. Regarding content, the student responds to the task only minimally and tangentially. The position on whether alternative medicine is a positive or negative development is obscured by confusing and illogical arguments. For instance, the writer claims that doctors use alternative medicine to hunt people with different diseases as a source of income. This represents a limited and under-developed approach to the prompt, failing to properly address the core issues of alternative treatments versus conventional medicine.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.0
Information and ideas are not arranged coherently throughout the essay. While basic paragraph breaks are attempted, the overall progression lacks logic and clarity. Transitional phrases are either misused or absent, resulting in disjointed sentences that make it difficult for the reader to follow the argument. For example, sentences such as 'Firstly, we should in the hospitals we not used in alternative medicine' lack clear logical connections to surrounding statements. Furthermore, referencing is frequently unclear, and the mechanical repetition of phrases hinders the flow of the text, keeping the response at a basic organizational level.
Lexical Resource: Band 4.0
The vocabulary used is basic and repetitive, heavily straining the reader's understanding. The student relies on elementary words and experiences severe limitations in word choice and collocations. There are numerous instances of incorrect word forms and awkward phrasing, such as 'disease range hunt', 'base is week', and 'busnies for people of doctor'. Furthermore, spelling and word-choice errors are pervasive throughout the response, impeding effective communication and reflecting a very restricted lexical range suitable for this level.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.0
The response demonstrates a very limited range of grammatical structures, consisting almost entirely of poorly constructed simple sentences. Errors are frequent and often distort the intended meaning. There are persistent issues with verb forms, tense usage, missing articles, incorrect plurals, and faulty prepositions within grammatical patterns. Examples of severe grammatical inaccuracy include 'Doctors should not used', 'more people effect with problems', and 'Government should that banned this hospitals that alternative medicines'. These frequent errors cause significant difficulty for the reader.
