Student answer (Band 6.0)

After the advancement of technology people are trying the alternative medicines rather than visiting a doctor which i think is a negative development. This is becomming a great problem in many countries because of the higher charges of doctor visits.

The most concerning and the challenging part, which has now become a trend is to searching the alternative on internet instead of consulting to a medical professionals. people tends to forget that the problem which looks a usual or the normal it may be life threatening if not treated in a proper manner. For example, a person took medicines by his own assuming that it is just a normal stomach pain but after few months when the problem was not resolved he visited to a medical professional and a second stage of stomach cancer was detected. Taking opinion from doctors is always best because they have spent years in learning and understanding those deseases and they can guide in more appropriate way.

Moreover, the internet is trained on various type of data and it cannot diagnose a human as efficiently as a doctor can. In the medical field there is a specialist of every body part like cardiologist. These medical professionals know every type of problem better than any internet website. According to a new research, WHO has recommended everyone to take advice from a doctor rather than trying to solve it by your own because it may be sometime life harming problem.

In conclusion, a medical professional has spent their entire life for understanding a perticular problem so a doctor should always given first priority to diagnose and treat that problem.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

Your position is clear from the opening: you consider replacing a doctor with alternative treatment a negative development, and you maintain this view in the conclusion. You give relevant reasons, including the risk of self-diagnosis and the value of medical specialists, and the stomach-cancer example helps illustrate the potential consequences. This addresses the task, but the discussion is unevenly developed: the claim that high consultation charges are driving the trend is introduced without explanation, and the internet point largely repeats the argument about doctors’ expertise. The reference to a WHO recommendation is also asserted rather than supported. To strengthen the response, explain each reason more fully and connect examples directly to the question of alternative medicines and treatments.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The response has a recognisable overall structure: an introduction states your view, two body paragraphs present reasons, and a conclusion restates your position. Linking expressions such as “Moreover” and “In conclusion” make the progression easy to follow. However, cohesion is sometimes mechanical, and the relationship between ideas is not always clear. For instance, the opening mentions doctors’ charges, but the body paragraphs do not develop this cause; the discussion shifts instead to internet searches and diagnosis. The second body paragraph also repeats the point that doctors have greater expertise without adding much new support. Use clearer topic sentences and develop one distinct reason in each paragraph, with examples that directly support it.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use some relevant topic vocabulary, including “alternative medicines,” “medical professionals,” “diagnose,” and “cardiologist,” so the main ideas are generally understandable. There are also attempts at more formal phrasing, such as “life threatening” and “appropriate way.” However, the range is limited and several word-choice, collocation, and spelling problems reduce precision: “searching the alternative on internet,” “trained on various type of data,” and “life harming problem” are unnatural or unclear. Spelling errors such as “becomming,” “deseases,” and “perticular” are noticeable. Aim to learn common medical collocations and check spelling; more precise phrasing would make your argument sound clearer and more academic.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple and complex sentences, including a conditional structure in “if not treated in a proper manner” and a relative clause beginning “which has now become a trend.” This shows some range, but control is inconsistent, and errors occur often enough to make parts of the response awkward. Examples include “people tends,” “a person took medicines,” “he visited to a medical professional,” and “a doctor should always given first priority.” Articles, agreement, verb forms, and sentence construction need attention. Practise building accurate sentences with subordinate clauses, and check each sentence for a clear subject and correctly formed verb. Greater accuracy would make your reasoning easier to follow.
