Student answer (Band 6.0)

In recent times, it is very common for individuals to replace their habits and their views as they get aged. I tend to think on the same line of the opinion as they meet new people and learn from their past habits. This essay will discuss my viewpoint in detail with relevant examples.

The one compelling reason why I believe that it is common for people to change their habits with the age is they influence by other people they met. Office or family gathering offers them to interact with new people. A person can see the benefit of any particular habit from that person and want to follow the same. For example, a person change his dinner time from 10 P.M to 7 P.M by listening the benefits of early dinner from his new colleague in the office.

Another reason why I agree that people's opinions are changed as they get older is they learn from their past mistakes. Sometimes people get negative result form their any specific routine. As they get older they can analyze that what is beneficial for them. As a result, they can adapt or change their existing habit which they feel is not good for them. Moreover, they can also set the negative view from the routine which they think was not beneficial for them.

To conclude, it can be finally commented that changing habits and perspectives is beneficial for people as they get older. There are several reasons like they are inspired by other person's choices and also they can learn from their personal experiences.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses the prompt and maintains a clear position throughout. The ideas are relevant, focusing on social influence and personal experience as drivers for change. However, the development is somewhat limited. While the example of changing dinner times is clear, the explanation of how opinions change is a bit repetitive and lacks depth. To reach a higher band, you should aim to provide more nuanced examples or explore the psychological aspect of why these changes occur as people age. The conclusion is a bit brief and simply restates the main points without adding a final thought or synthesis.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The essay is logically organized into clear paragraphs, each with a central theme. You use basic cohesive devices such as 'For example', 'Moreover', and 'To conclude' to link ideas. However, the flow between sentences is sometimes mechanical, and the use of referencing could be more sophisticated. For instance, the transition between the introduction and the first body paragraph feels a bit abrupt. To improve, try to vary your linking words and ensure that the progression of ideas within paragraphs is smoother by using more complex cohesive structures rather than relying on simple sentence starters.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The vocabulary is adequate for the task, allowing you to express your ideas clearly. You use some topic-specific vocabulary like 'perspectives', 'analyze', and 'beneficial'. However, there are instances of awkward phrasing and word choice, such as 'get aged' instead of 'age' or 'get negative result form their any specific routine'. These inaccuracies occasionally hinder the natural flow of the text. To improve, focus on learning common collocations and idiomatic expressions related to personal growth and behavioral change to move beyond basic vocabulary.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

You demonstrate a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are frequent grammatical errors, particularly with verb forms and prepositions, such as 'they influence by other people' (should be 'they are influenced') and 'listening the benefits' (should be 'listening to the benefits'). These errors are noticeable but do not prevent the reader from understanding your argument. To achieve a higher band, you need to increase the frequency of error-free sentences and work on your control over passive voice and prepositional usage.
