Student answer (Band 6.0)
Nowadays, changing habits and opinions as people get older is a widely discussed issue. Some people believe that changing opinion and habits is completely normal as you grow older. I completely agree with this view because people learn from their life experiences and get influenced by the changes in their surroundings.
One main reason why I agree with this view is that people learn from their life experiences as they grow older. This is because they learn from their own mistakes as well as the mistakes of the other people they meet or see. For example, a young person may develop better spending habits after facing a financial problem. As a result, life experiences change a lot of habits and how people think.
Another important reason is that people get influenced by the changes in their surroundings. This is because, as they grow up they make new friends and also meet new people at their workplace. For instance, a person will develop healthier habits from colleagues with exercise regularly and eat healthy food. Therefore, people get influenced by the changes in their surroundings.
In conclusion, I completely agree that people change their habits and opinions as they get older. This is mainly because people learn from their life experiences and changes in their surroundings and new experiences. Therefore, I believe that new experiences and life changes affect the thinking of the people and their habits.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response addresses the prompt clearly and maintains a consistent position throughout. However, the essay falls short of the 250-word minimum requirement, which limits the depth of the arguments provided. While the ideas regarding life experiences and social influence are relevant, they are somewhat repetitive and lack the necessary elaboration to fully explore the topic. To reach a higher band, you should expand on your examples with more specific detail and ensure the essay meets the length requirement to allow for a more comprehensive discussion of the prompt.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, with a clear introduction, two body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Cohesive devices such as 'One main reason', 'Another important reason', and 'In conclusion' are used to guide the reader. However, the progression of ideas is somewhat mechanical, and the repetition of phrases like 'people get influenced by the changes in their surroundings' at the end of the third paragraph makes the flow feel slightly redundant. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring that each paragraph adds new information rather than restating the premise would improve the overall coherence.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The vocabulary used is adequate for the task but remains quite basic and repetitive. Phrases such as 'widely discussed issue', 'completely normal', and 'life experiences' are used frequently. There is little attempt to use less common or more sophisticated lexical items. To improve, you should aim to incorporate more precise vocabulary related to personal development, psychology, or social dynamics. For example, instead of repeating 'habits', you could use terms like 'behavioral patterns' or 'lifestyle choices' to demonstrate a wider range of vocabulary.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the grammar is generally accurate and communication is not impeded, there are some minor errors, such as 'colleagues with exercise regularly', which should be 'colleagues who exercise regularly'. The range of structures is somewhat limited, relying heavily on 'This is because' and 'As a result'. To achieve a higher band, you should incorporate a wider variety of complex grammatical structures, such as conditional sentences or passive voice, and ensure greater precision in your sentence construction.
