Student answer (Band 6.0)

Nowadays, everybody wants to see themselves as their highest self and have a positive mindset. Creating new habits and opinions is getting normal for human beings by certain time period. I agree with the statement of changing habits among people and will elucidate the reasons and some examples in this essay.

Transforming habits and opinions gets quite normal among folks as they get more mature. It is because of changes in lifestyle, to create positivity and proper utilization of the power of their brains when they are mature to be better at understanding. To exemplify, it is claimed by the experts, people who developed the habit of waking up early are more good at utilizing the time and energy to work upon themselves. In other words, individuals who keep changing their habits usually see positive and negative influence in their life. Therefore, when people get older they learn so many things in their life that can lead them to change their rituals and practices.

There are some relevant examples that can demonstrate what kind of habits and opinions people usually try to change. Firstly, in earlier times folks did not have the habit of saying 'No' to the things that they do not want to do, but nowadays there is change in informing their views. Secondly, there is an increase in the number of folks who are developing the habit of learning new skills that is helping them to be financially successful. In addition to these habits like drinking alcohol, wasting lots of time on social media can also disturb human lives.

To conclude, it is universal among folks to change their habits and opinions as they grow. And so, if these are good changes that can lead to positive development and vice versa.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses the prompt by agreeing that habits and opinions change with age. However, the development of ideas is somewhat superficial. While you mention reasons like 'changes in lifestyle' and 'understanding', these points are not fully explored or supported with concrete, personal examples. The essay relies on general statements rather than specific evidence. To reach a higher band, ensure that each paragraph provides a clear, well-developed argument that directly links back to the core question of why and how these changes occur as one matures. The conclusion is also quite brief and lacks a summary of the main points discussed.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, and there is a clear progression of ideas. You use some cohesive devices such as 'Firstly', 'Secondly', and 'In addition to', which help guide the reader. However, some transitions feel a bit mechanical, and the flow between sentences could be smoother. For example, the transition between the discussion of 'saying No' and 'learning new skills' is abrupt. Additionally, the use of referencing is occasionally unclear, such as in the final sentence where the connection between 'good changes' and 'vice versa' is grammatically incomplete and slightly confusing.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using words like 'elucidate', 'mature', and 'utilizing'. However, there are instances of imprecise word choice and awkward collocations, such as 'more good at utilizing' (should be 'better at utilizing') and 'by certain time period' (which is unnatural). The phrasing 'folks' is too informal for an IELTS essay; 'individuals' or 'people' would be more appropriate. To improve, focus on using more precise academic vocabulary and ensuring that collocations are natural and accurate.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede the flow. Examples include 'Creating new habits and opinions is getting normal' (should be 'becoming common'), 'it is claimed by the experts, people who developed' (missing a connector like 'that'), and 'there is change in informing their views' (which is vague). Punctuation is generally acceptable, but sentence construction often lacks the sophistication required for higher bands. Focus on subject-verb agreement and refining the use of articles and prepositions.
