Student answer (Band 6.0)

Nowadays, this has become a widely discussed topic that as people get older, their habits and thoughts changes with time. I completely agree with this statement because growing age greatly influence on the habits and opinion of people.

The first reason, why I totally agreed with the statement is that when people are ageing, there are several hormonal changes take place in our body that results in transforming their habits. For instance, when women's menopause phase starts, She undergo mood swings, like from the happiness to sudden sadness and this eventually leads to revolutionise their daily habits compare to the past habits.

Furthermore, I believe that the choices of some people changes with the growing age because of their thinking level and experience. When they grew up, they become more specific with their eating, gatherings and work habits. For example, From eating junk foods they start eating healthy food. In addition, when they are in their 60's, most of the older individuals avoid gatherings because they do not want to interacts with a lot of people, they find this disturbing. Along with that, they become more organized in their work place with greater experience.

The third reason is that people opinions transform with growing age because with the passage of time, they learn variety of lessons in their life, that changes their point of view from younger age's opinions. Such as, with their greater experience and forward ageing, they keep thinking for better options. They give advice according to their mindset and experience.

In conclusion, I strongly believe that people habits and opinion changes with growing age. Women faces mood swings due to menopause. Not only this but also they become more organized with their eating, gatherings and work habits. With growing age and experience, their opinion also changes with the passage of time.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

You have clearly stated your position and maintained it throughout the response. The essay addresses both habits and opinions as requested. The ideas are relevant, such as the mention of biological changes and life experience, though some points could be more deeply explored. For instance, the link between menopause and 'revolutionising' habits is a bit of a stretch and could be better explained. Overall, you have fulfilled the requirements of the task by providing reasons and examples to support your argument, showing a clear progression of thought.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is logically organized into paragraphs, each with a clear central theme. You use cohesive devices such as 'Furthermore', 'In addition', and 'In conclusion' to guide the reader. However, some transitions feel slightly mechanical, and there is a minor issue with the repetition of the conclusion paragraph at the end. The referencing is generally clear, but the flow between sentences could be improved by using a wider variety of linking words to avoid a repetitive structure. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate distinct ideas.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, allowing you to express your ideas clearly. You use some topic-specific terms like 'hormonal changes', 'menopause', and 'mood swings'. However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'growing age' (better: 'as people age' or 'advancing age') and 'revolutionise their daily habits' (which is slightly unnatural in this context). While your vocabulary is sufficient to convey your meaning, you need to use more precise collocations to reach a higher band.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

You attempt a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. However, there are frequent grammatical errors, particularly with subject-verb agreement ('habits and thoughts changes', 'choices... changes', 'Women faces') and article usage. Some sentences are slightly awkward, such as 'there are several hormonal changes take place'. While these errors do not prevent the reader from understanding your message, they are frequent enough to impact the overall fluency. Focusing on basic subject-verb agreement and consistent tense usage will significantly improve your score.
