Student answer (Band 7.0)
It is often argued that people change both their habits and opinions as they grow older. I completely agree with this view because aging often bring changes in people's priorities and lifestyles, although their fundamental beliefs and core values may remain relatively stable.
One of the primary reasons why people's habits change with time is that their responsibilities and circumstances tend to evolve. Young people, for example, have generally flexible schedule and spend a considerable amount of time exploring new places, watching movies and socializing. However, as they enter the workforce, take on financial responsibility, their daily routines are likely to become more structured. Consequently, they may prefer to adopt healthier habits as they become increasingly aware of the importance of their well-being. For instance, an individual who regularly consume junk foods in their twenties may begin eating nutritious foods to maintain their health.
People's opinions also change with the age as they gain experience and encounter different perspectives. As individuals grow older, they are exposed to a wide range of social situations, cultures and ideas, which can cause them to reconsider their beliefs as they previously held. Moreover, major life experiences, such as getting married, becoming a pregnant, changing careers, can alter the way people perceive certain issues. For instance, someone who once prioritized career success may later focus on maintaining work-life balance.
In conclusion, I strongly agree that growing older commonly leads to changes in people's opinions and habits, primarily because their responsibilities, circumstances and exposure to some family issues. However, while lifestyle choices and specific opinions often change with time, fundamental values and principle remain stable.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0
The response addresses all parts of the prompt, clearly stating a position in the introduction and maintaining it throughout. The ideas are relevant and supported by examples, such as the transition from a student lifestyle to a professional one and the impact of life events like marriage. The development is logical, although the conclusion introduces a slightly new point about 'family issues' that was not previously elaborated upon in the body paragraphs. Overall, the response is well-focused and meets the requirements of the task effectively.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.5
The essay is logically organized with a clear progression of ideas. Each paragraph has a central theme, and the transition between the discussion of habits and opinions is smooth. Cohesive devices such as 'consequently', 'for instance', and 'moreover' are used effectively to link sentences and ideas. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the introduction, body paragraphs, and conclusion. The flow of the argument is easy to follow, and the referencing is generally clear throughout the text.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.5
The vocabulary is generally appropriate and sufficient for the task. You demonstrate the ability to use topic-specific language such as 'fundamental beliefs', 'financial responsibility', and 'work-life balance'. There are some minor inaccuracies, such as 'becoming a pregnant' (should be 'becoming pregnant') and 'consume junk foods' (should be 'consumes junk food'). Despite these occasional slips, the range is adequate to convey your ideas with precision and clarity, showing a good level of flexibility.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures effectively. There are several error-free sentences, which indicates good control. However, there are some grammatical slips, such as 'aging often bring' (should be 'brings'), 'flexible schedule' (should be 'flexible schedules'), and 'beliefs as they previously held' (should be 'beliefs they previously held'). These errors are non-systematic and do not impede communication. To reach a higher band, focus on subject-verb agreement and article usage to ensure greater accuracy in complex structures.
