Student answer (Band 6.0)

It is widely believed that individuals can alter their habits along with their opinions as they grow. I largely agree with the above statement as people get older they become good observer, mature and experienced.

To begin with, after the age of 40 the majority of people's have sufficient amount of time to look back and observe their decisions taken by them. And this encourage them to change their habits if required. Moreover, it is often seen that people tend to obtain new daily routines in old life to keep themselves fit and organised. It happens because of maturity they obtain in young life. It is claimed by an American report that the majority of people acquire healthy lifestyle after the age of 40. Furthermore, experience gained in adultage used by individuals in their old age, which not only influence them to reach a good decisions but change their mindsets and opinions. Indeed, many people stick to certain mindset after a particular age but it is only seen in few people's. For instance, many residents of South Asian countries claimed that they observed a change in their opinions after the age of 40.

According to me, experience and maturity are the components who encourage people to their views about their lifestyle and their decisions.

In conclusion, changes in habits and views are common in old age because of experience accumulated in their young and maturity they developed. It is a significant change as people can utilize these changes for their betterment.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses the prompt by expressing a clear position of agreement. The ideas regarding maturity, experience, and the ability to reflect on past decisions are relevant. However, the development is somewhat limited. While you mention an 'American report' and 'South Asian countries,' these examples are vague and lack sufficient detail to fully support your arguments. To reach a higher band, ensure that your supporting points are more thoroughly explained and linked directly to the prompt. The conclusion effectively summarizes your position, but the overall depth of the argument remains at a basic level.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, and there is a clear progression of ideas from the introduction to the conclusion. You use some cohesive devices such as 'To begin with,' 'Moreover,' and 'Furthermore' to link your points. However, some of these transitions feel mechanical, and there are instances where the flow is slightly disrupted by awkward phrasing, such as 'According to me' at the start of the fourth paragraph. Additionally, the referencing is occasionally unclear, which impacts the overall coherence of the argument.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary used is generally adequate for the task, allowing you to convey your meaning clearly. You attempt to use some topic-specific vocabulary like 'maturity,' 'accumulated,' and 'mindsets.' However, there are several instances of imprecise word choice and collocation errors, such as 'good observer' (should be 'good observers'), 'obtain new daily routines' (should be 'adopt'), and 'adultage' (not a standard term). The range of vocabulary is somewhat limited, and you rely on basic phrasing to express your ideas. Expanding your range of synonyms and collocations would improve this score.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While you attempt complex sentences, they are frequently marred by grammatical errors. Common issues include subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'majority of people's have'), incorrect pluralization (e.g., 'few people's'), and missing articles or prepositions. For example, 'components who encourage' should be 'components that encourage.' These errors are frequent, although they rarely impede the reader's ability to understand your core message. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence construction and proofreading for common agreement and article errors.
