Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience.

Student answer (Band 6.0)

I agree with this statement since when people get older, their habits and opinions will change. According to their experience and learning, they will change their daily lifestyle as well ideas too.

Firstly, for daily routine, the consuming habit will change; they cannot eat everything like youngsters, so they will choose healthy meals instead of fast food. The nap time will change; most elders sleep early and wake up early too. Moreover, their purchasing habits will also change: seniors will buy only what they need, while teenagers will buy whatever they like. For example, my father will buy clothes only for special occasions and festivals, while my brother shops every month.

Then, for the opinions also will be different according to their age. They will think and decide for example, they will compare the past and will try to see the consequences if the thinks happens like. Not only see the positive side but also will think negative also. The ideas will be useful for young generation. Sometimes educated people cannot assess, but elderly people can see through their experience. For example, adults view for healthy food is different, while youth's perspective is not the same. Some seniors think that when dressing, it should be fully covered, while young people like to wear fashionable clothes.

To conclude, elders' habits are different from those of youth; they think and do and they have concerns about their health too. When we talk about perspective, it's totally different when they get old because of their experience and learning

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses the prompt by agreeing that habits and opinions change with age. You provide relevant examples, such as dietary changes and differing perspectives on fashion. However, the development is somewhat limited. The ideas are presented in a list-like fashion rather than being fully explored or analysed. For instance, the discussion on 'opinions' is quite repetitive and lacks depth regarding why these changes occur beyond a general mention of 'experience'. To improve, ensure each paragraph focuses on a single, well-developed argument that connects back to the central thesis, providing more nuanced explanations rather than just listing examples.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is organised into clear paragraphs, which helps the reader follow your argument. You use basic cohesive devices like 'Firstly', 'Moreover', and 'To conclude'. However, the flow between sentences is sometimes mechanical or repetitive, particularly in the second paragraph where many sentences start with 'they will'. The referencing is occasionally unclear, such as in the phrase 'if the thinks happens like', which disrupts the logical progression. To reach a higher band, try to use a wider variety of linking words and ensure that pronouns clearly refer back to the intended nouns to improve the overall cohesion of your writing.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using words like 'consequences', 'perspective', and 'assess'. However, there are instances of imprecise word choice and awkward phrasing, such as 'consuming habit' instead of 'dietary habits' or 'the thinks happens like'. Some vocabulary is repetitive, particularly the use of 'change' and 'different'. To improve, focus on using more precise collocations and synonyms to avoid repetition. Expanding your range to include more topic-specific vocabulary related to human development or social psychology would also help elevate your score.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are frequent grammatical errors, such as 'adults view for healthy food is different' (should be 'adults' views on healthy food are different') and 'if the thinks happens like'. Punctuation is also inconsistent, with some run-on sentences and missing articles. These errors do not usually impede communication, but they are noticeable. To improve, focus on subject-verb agreement and the correct use of articles. Practising the construction of more complex sentences with accurate subordinate clauses will also help you move up the band scale.
