Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses the prompt by agreeing that habits and opinions change with age. The position is clear throughout. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited. While the points regarding life experience and health are relevant, they are not fully extended. For instance, the example about retirement funds is a bit vague, and the second paragraph regarding diet could have been more clearly linked to the broader concept of changing opinions. The conclusion reiterates the stance well, but the overall depth of the argument is more characteristic of a Band 6, as some points are slightly repetitive or under-developed.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, each with a clear central topic. Cohesive devices such as 'To begin with', 'Furthermore', and 'To conclude' are used to guide the reader. However, the use of these devices is sometimes mechanical, and there are instances where the flow between sentences is slightly disjointed, such as the transition between the health example and the mention of wealthy individuals. Referencing is generally clear, but the paragraphing could be more sophisticated to improve the overall progression of ideas.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary is adequate for the task but lacks variety and precision. There are some errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'learned more fact' instead of 'learned more facts' and 'organ become less resistance' instead of 'organs become less resistant'. The student attempts to use some topic-specific vocabulary like 'retirement fund' and 'diet restrictions', but the range is limited. To reach a higher band, the student should focus on using more precise collocations and avoiding repetitive phrasing.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede the flow. Examples include 'I am totally agree' (should be 'I totally agree'), 'Individual who believe' (should be 'Individuals who believe'), and 'at some extent' (should be 'to some extent'). Subject-verb agreement and article usage are inconsistent throughout the text. While the meaning is generally clear, the frequency of these errors prevents the essay from reaching a higher band score.
