Student answer (Band 6.5)

Life teaches us a lot of lessons along the way. With every stage we learn something new. However, I do believe there is no age bracket to acquire knowledge. As our knowledge expands, we perceive things around us differently. which affects our lifestyles, habits, or the choices we make. I firmly believe that it is quite common for an individual to switch their habits as well as opinions as they move ahead with their lives.

When we are younger, we are introduced to a structured setting for academics. A youngster tries to explore as many options as they can to get a better understanding of their interests. Although it plays a significant role in one's life to choose what they genuinely like, it can change as we grow older. For instance, when I was a child between the ages of 14 and 16 years, I admired becoming an artist. Moreover, as I grew older, my preference changed. After completing my school, I wanted decided to opt for early childhood education.

It is quite common for a person to change their beliefs. My grandmother was a firm believer in her morals and the way she used to organize her belongings every now and then. Moreover, when I see her at this point in life, where she has turned 85 years old, I observe her just playing with her grandchildren and two dogs. Her perspective of life changed as she grew older.

In conclusion, I would like to say life never works in an uniform way or how we have planned. One should always be open to every challenge that life throws at them. If we see overall all these habits, experiences, opinions, and abilities to make decisions, it helps us develop as a person.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0

The response addresses the prompt clearly and maintains a consistent position throughout. You have provided relevant examples, such as your personal career shift and your grandmother's change in lifestyle, which support your argument effectively. However, the development of these ideas could be more profound. While the examples are relevant, they are somewhat brief. To reach a higher band, you should aim to elaborate more on the 'why' and 'how' behind these changes, perhaps by discussing the psychological or environmental factors that drive such shifts in human behavior. Overall, the task is fully addressed, and the position is clear.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The essay is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. You use cohesive devices such as 'However', 'For instance', and 'Moreover' to link ideas. While the flow is generally good, some transitions feel slightly mechanical or repetitive. For example, the start of the third paragraph, 'It is quite common for a person to change their beliefs', mirrors the opening argument too closely. Improving the variety of linking phrases and ensuring that each paragraph has a more distinct topic sentence would enhance the overall cohesion of the essay.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using words like 'structured', 'perceive', and 'morals' appropriately. There are some minor issues with collocation and word choice, such as 'wanted decided to opt for' (a grammatical error that also affects lexical flow) and 'in an uniform way'. To improve, try to incorporate more precise academic collocations and avoid redundant phrasing. The vocabulary is sufficient to communicate your ideas clearly, but it lacks the sophistication and flexibility required for higher band scores.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While many sentences are clear, there are several grammatical slips, such as the sentence fragment 'which affects our lifestyles...' and the error 'wanted decided to opt for'. Additionally, there are minor punctuation and phrasing issues, such as 'overall all these habits'. While these errors do not impede communication, they occur frequently enough to prevent a higher score. To improve, focus on proofreading for subject-verb agreement and ensuring that subordinate clauses are correctly attached to main clauses.
