Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 250 words, reaching only 160 words. This significantly impacts the development of ideas. While the essay addresses the prompt by agreeing that habits and opinions change with age, the arguments are underdeveloped and lack sufficient supporting evidence. The example provided regarding UK universities is vague and lacks specific detail. To improve, you must expand your points with more thorough explanations and concrete examples to fully explore the topic, ensuring the response meets the length requirement.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The essay is organised into paragraphs, but the flow of ideas is somewhat disjointed. While some cohesive devices are used, such as 'Furthermore' and 'In conclusion', others are used incorrectly or awkwardly, such as 'due to it they get change'. The progression of ideas is limited by the brevity of the response. To improve, focus on using a wider variety of linking words and ensure that each paragraph has a clear topic sentence followed by well-connected supporting ideas.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary is generally basic and repetitive. Phrases like 'a lot of reasons' and 'bunch of experince' are informal and lack the precision required for an IELTS essay. There are also several spelling errors, such as 'formost', 'experince', and 'Individulad'. To achieve a higher score, you should aim to use a more academic range of vocabulary and ensure correct spelling. Focus on learning collocations and more sophisticated synonyms for common words to demonstrate a broader lexical range.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The response contains frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede clarity, such as 'I am agree this it' and 'people when they become older they have some changes'. Sentence structures are mostly simple, with limited attempts at complex sentences. Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with spacing around punctuation marks. To improve, focus on subject-verb agreement, correct word order, and the use of more complex sentence structures. Proofreading for basic errors like missing articles and incorrect verb forms is essential.
