Student answer (Band 6.5)

The widespread discussion surrounding the topic that it is very common for people to change their habits and opinions as they age has gained a considerable debate. From my Perspective, It actually depends on the individual; however, I firmly believe that, with age, people change the way they do things and the way the way they think.

One significant reason that supports my view is that people naturally become mature with age as they experience numerous things as life progresses. As a result, it has an impact on their mind and changes the way they view things. For example, A person who started his first job after graduation would start experiencing life differently unlike the joyous life in graduation. Moreover, It influences in changing the habits like starting to invest or save money wisely rather than spending unnecessarily.

Another notable factor that reinforces my idea is an individual's personal life experiences can largely influence the way they act or think regardless of age. Sometimes, bad experiences pushes them to take life seriously and work hard to avoid encountering those situations again. On the other hand, some people learn from others mistakes and become precarious. They draw motivation from others and change their way of thinking. Admittedly, Age is certainly a key factor that has huge impact on the mindset and habits of people because of the responsibilities they handle.

In conclusion, Although some people thought process stay rigid all the time, I am still inclined to stand on my point that people change their habits and opinions as they get older because of the plethora of experiences they go through and the responsibilities they take up.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0

The response addresses the prompt clearly and maintains a consistent position throughout. You have provided relevant reasons, such as the impact of life experiences and increased responsibilities, to support your argument. The ideas are generally well-developed, though some points, such as the mention of 'precarious' (which seems to be used incorrectly to mean 'cautious'), could be explained with more precision. Overall, the response covers all parts of the task well, and your stance is clear from the introduction to the conclusion.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0

The essay is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. You use cohesive devices such as 'One significant reason', 'Moreover', and 'On the other hand' to guide the reader through your arguments. However, there are some minor issues with mechanical cohesion, such as the repetitive 'the way the way' in the introduction and some slightly awkward phrasing. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate distinct ideas, which helps the overall flow of the essay.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.5

You demonstrate a sufficient range of vocabulary to discuss the topic with some flexibility. Phrases like 'plethora of experiences' and 'mindset' are used effectively. However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice, such as using 'precarious' when you likely meant 'cautious' or 'prudent'. Additionally, there are minor errors in collocation and word form, such as 'influences in changing' instead of 'influences the change in'. These errors do not impede communication but prevent a higher score.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While you successfully use complex sentences, there are frequent minor errors in grammar and punctuation, such as unnecessary capitalization ('Perspective', 'It', 'A person'), subject-verb agreement issues ('bad experiences pushes'), and missing articles. Despite these errors, the meaning remains clear throughout. To improve, focus on proofreading for basic grammatical slips and ensuring consistent sentence structure control.
